Movie Review: Mandy (2018)

Red (Nicholas Cage) is a lumberjack who lives in a heavily windowed house deep in the wilderness with his artist/pulp paperback readin’/gas station attendant love Mandy (Andrea Riseborough). All is bucolic existence (minus a traumatic childhood story here or there), until the local evil religious cult, lead by the enigmatic Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache), sets their sights on Mandy and conjures up a demonic ATV riding gang seemingly straight from hell to subdue her and Red. Sand soon appears on the scene and lays bare his past as a failed rock star who was blessed by “God” to do as he will, and he has the unholy relics to prove it! Mandy, in a drug induced…well, giant monster wasp induced, stupor rebukes his advances, which sets Sand off on a murderous frenzy resulting in her immolation. One problem though…they leave Red alive, and he is a bit pissed to say the least! As you can surmise Red then walks revenge

Movie Review: Paranormal Farm 2: Closer To The Truth (2018)

Last December I had the putrid pleasure of layin’ my eerie eyeballs on Paranormal Farm; a frightfully fantastic found footage flick done absolutely right (you can read my thoughts on that on right here). I was pleased as a preternatural pig wallowing in supernatural shit when I found out a second installment had been made, and without further ado, here’s my revoltin review of Paranormal Farm 2: Closer to the Truth! Filmmaker/Paranormal Investigator Carl Medland (in front of and behind the camera) is back again, and returns to the scene of the crime, such at is, to talk to the participants of the first endeavor about their opinions of the first film, and to check in on how life of the farm has carried on since his last visit…all to be included as special features on the impending DVD release of the first film. Once there, we learn that some of the events in the first film were a put

Movie Review: Lake Placid: Legacy

Just when they thought they were out of the of the game of high-stakes exploring, Jade (Katherine Barrell) and Sam (Tim Rozon) are pulled back in when Dane (Maxiu, Baldry) issues one last challenge with a $100,000 prize. Jade and Sam along with their team arrive at the location which so restricted it’s blacked out on Google. The remote wooded area soon reveals that a terrible secret lurks beyond its fences, a giant man-eating alligator. After their guide is killed and the other wounded, the team enters the mysterious facility in hope of finding a way out of the area, but all they find is more teeth. Directed by Darrell Roodt (The Lullaby), the films prove that long-running franchises can survive if you go bigger and badder. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Lake Placid: Legacy. But when it all comes down to it, I enjoyed it. The plot was interesting and it will keep you on your toes.

Zombie Comedy ‘One Cut Of The Dead!’ Gnaws It’s Way To Vancouver Film Festival

From September 27th to October 12th the Vancouver International Film Festival will be showcasing works from filmmakers around the world. Most of the films this year are documentaries dealing with issues in the modern world, fictionalized dramas, and of course avant-garde. I’m not sure how most of you (the readers) would be into that stuff but one film submission from Japan seems like something you would like! “Kamera Wo Tomeruna! (One Cut of the Dead!)” The film is a Gonzo-style comedy film, the kind of which Japan is known for. Gonzo comedy is over the top, extreme, and sometimes just so strange where you can’t help but laugh at how unreasonable it is. “One Cut of the Dead!” follows a film crew filming a low-budget cheesy zombie flick in a remote area in the mountains. While filming the production and actors encounter a hoard of REAL zombies who start to attack and feed on the crew, the director instead of

Jordan Peele Is Currently In Talks To Remake ‘Candyman’

One of the most iconic horror films to come out of the nineties was Bernard Rose’s Candyman, the Urban Legend tale adapted from Clive Barker’s “The Forbidden” featured in the “Books of Blood”. Candyman, played by Tony Todd, often doesn’t get the respect he deserves, the character is a true horror icon in every sense of the word. I’ll be honest, my friends and I never got to the fifth “Candyman” in front of the mirror that was meant to conjure him. It’s been twenty years since we heard anything concrete about a new installment of the Candyman franchise, but that has just changed. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Get Out director Jordan Peele is currently in talks to produce another film for the franchise, a remake, under his Monkeypaw Productions banner. No director has been announced at this point, but Rose himself stated two years ago that he would love to make a “proper” sequel with Virginia Madsen returning

South Korean Horror ‘Monstrum’ Strikes Rare Distribution Deal With China

South Korean creature feature Monstrum has snagged a rare distribution deal in China after years of Korean entertainment being banned in China, Variety reports. .Directed by Huh Jong-ho, Monstrum is said to be based on genuine historical records made during the Joseon Dynasty of a mysterious monster creature. “It’s the 22nd year of Jungjong. The plague has taken over Joseon, and fear runs rampant in the streets. When rumors of a vicious beast roaming Mount Inwangsan–called “Monstrum” by terrified masses–begin to spread, fear turns into panic. In order to quell the rising panic, Jungjong brings back his most trusted general Yoon-gyeom from retirement. Joined by his daughter Myeong, his right-hand man Seong-han, and royal court officer Heo, Yoon-gyeom sets out to find the mysterious creature.” The Chinese ban on Korean films, series, and other forms of entertainment came as a response from China’s disapproval of South Korea allowing the US to put its THAAD missile defense systems in the South

Movie Review: My Pet Dinosaur (2017)

What appears to be a U.F.O. leaves behind some glowing goo which is found by a group of kids, one of which possesses a prize-winning dick of an older brother who just has to fuck around with the sticky shit which results in the creation of a dinosaur like creature. Before you can say “Stranger Things Season Two”, our pint-sized heroes decide to keep the thing as a pet; even as the military moves in to contain the seemingly otherworldly situation…which pits our heroes against some very dangerous dudes! You can definitely see where the filmmmkers were comin’ from with My Pet Dinosaur, but to paraphrase Maxwell Smart, they missed it by that much. This film is, if nothing else, a fascinating study in dichotomy…to expand; the film looks extremely polished visually (deserving special mention is the opening sequence; a fantastically well done Spielberg pastiche involving U.F.O.s and government agents), but some of the acting is off…especially in regards to
