Mothmen 1966, the first visual novel in a series inspired by mid-20th century pulp fiction and ‘80s home computer graphics published by Chorus Worldwide and developed by LCB Game Studio will be taking players to the legendary West Virginian location of Point Pleasant as a pair of lovers, a gas station owner, and a paranormal investigator who are all caught up in a series of strange events on this evening of 1966. In Mothmen 1966 players will have to guide our four heroes to safety across eleven chapters of a “choose your own adventure” style game done in an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of ‘80s home computers and scored with an otherworldly lo-fi soundtrack. Repel attacking coyotes, spot cryptids with binoculars, or even try a hand at Impossible Solitaire to help keep your characters alive to unravel the otherworldly conspiracy involving The Mothman. I’m nearing a major milestone of reviewing over 100 games for you the Horror Fuel reader but this review, in my opinion, is more important as it’s been both humbling and surreal. The game reviewed today comes to us from Sengi Games a Ukrainian-based indie game developer, even though their home country is in the middle of a war in which many of their countrymen have been murdered for simply being Ukrainian, they still worked on the game so it will be ready in time for its release date, the game: The Serpent Rogue. I want to thank Team 17 and Sengi Games (I hope you guys see this!) for the reviewing opportunity! The Serpent Rogue is a third-person adventure where players are in a dark world and play as The Warden, a plague doctor-looking alchemist tasked with saving the world from a corrupting dark force that reawakened and is taking over the lands. Indie game studio Kruger & Flint Productions which is made up of a team of creators who have worked on titles such as Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Witchfire, and Dying Light 2 Stay Human has announced their debut project, Bloodhound, a fast-paced first-person shooter which has a Kickstarter where would-be fans can help see the game reach its full potential. Inspired by classic FPS games of yore, Bloodhound puts players in the role of a member of a secret faction within the order of the Templars who fight the Cult of Astaroth. The main story of the game will have four acts where players must lay waste to 15 different types of enemies and defeat 4 bosses while using an arsenal of 10 different kinds of weapons all to the tune of metal music provided by Sons of Amon. It might be spring but the chill of winter can still be felt in the air for most people, but for the topic of this review, winter has just begun in Winter Ember, an isometric stealth sandbox action game taking players to the city of Anargal where they can lurk in the shadows as a former Nobel turned vigilante. A big thank you to Blowfish and Skymachine Studios for making this review possible! In Winter Ember you play Arthur, a Nobel playboy turned hooded vigilante after going into hiding leaving others to assume you met the same fate as your family after your mansion was destroyed. Arthur returns to the city he once called home to exact revenge and uncover a growing conspiracy involving cults, street gangs, and other wicked foes. Now onto the game itself. DreadXP has announced the release date for their upcoming anthology of horror games Dread X Collection 5. The anthology is based around the theme of “entertainment”, the collection brings forth 12 delightfully twisted short-form nightmares from the creators of such indie hits as 0°N 0°W, Lakeview Cabin, Sylvio, and The Mortuary Assistant. Dread X Collection 5 transports players to terrifying locales like haunted nightclubs, dark carnivals, haunted puppet shows, the country Finland in the year 1888, a karaoke bar toilet, and so much more! While all games in the collection are horror-themed, they each have their unique takes on what truly makes a great horror experience. NACON and Rogue Factor are teaming up to bring gamers the action-adventure game Hell is Us. Development for Hell is Us will be overseen by creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, who has worked on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and more recently Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Hell is Us is a third-person game taking place in a semi-open world where exploration is key with no quest logs or waypoints which will allow players to use their own instincts to guide them in the world. My Bloody Valentine: The Game is the second installment in the Stop the Killer game series, produced by Anthony Masi in conjunction with Fright-Rags, following the wildly successful launch of Silent Night, Deadly Night: The Game. The board game is live now on Kickstarter where those who pledge will be able to pre-order the game! 1-4 players move around the board and collect weapons, draw cards, work around roadblocks, use the secret mine tunnel, and try not to get their hearts broken all while trying to stop Harry Warden, the miner killer, from reaching the Valentine’s day dance. A Kickstarter-exclusive drinking game version is built into the board, two optional expansion packs bring even more fun to the game, and five stretch goals can be unlocked to improve the quality of the packaging. The game’s Kickstarter runs now till May 7th!
