In the future, the galaxy’s greatest form of entertainment is Cosmoball; a form of space soccer involving athletes that can teleport from all ends of the universe and beyond! Enter: Anton, a scruffy teen from Earth who lives in a candy colored (more on that in a bit my cats n’ creeps) slum with his sick mother (who’s illness is the result of Earth’s moon being cracked into pieces after a collision with an alien spacecraft)… a mother who’s medicine the family can not afford… and his ass hates him some Cosmoball, let me tell ya! After deciphering an ancient text, a priest (Álex Angulo) sets about to avert the birth of the antichrist on Christmas Day of 1995 in Madrid, but there’s just one problem… he must summon the devil to accomplish his goal, and he has no fuckin’ clue on how to pull off that unholy miracle! After blowin’ into town, our pugnacious padre decides to commit as many sins as possible so that when Big D does make the scene, he’ll think him a staunch ally. He also sets about enlisting some assistance in his upcoming infernal summoning by way of local violence prone (and often drug addled) metal head José María (Santiago Segura of Guillermo Del Toro’s Blade II & Hellboy films, and Beyond Re-Animator to name but a few), and the man that dynamite duo kidnap; TV Psychic and Occultist Professor Cavan (Armando De Razza). Perdita Durango (Rosie Perez), that jaguar lovin’, do-whatever-the-fuck she pleases badass has truly met her match in blood-crazed, self-proclaimed sorcerer (of a rather unpleasant version of Santeria he has bastardized) and crime spree enthusiast Romeo (Javier Bardem), and the world is all the worse for it! What does Satan’s favorite power couple get up to you may ask? Well, Romeo gets a gig transporting fetuses for illegal use by a cosmetics company, but before engaging in that bit o’ biz; he and his lady-fare decide to kidnap a ridiculous duo of college kids, lovers Duane (Harley Cross) and Estelle… who’s lives mirror a sitcom, in order to eat one of them (they haven’t decided on which one) and use them as sacrifices in one of Romeo’s Santeria shows. Hot on their trail is ridiculous, yet doggedly determined DEA agent Dumas (James Gandolfini) who can take cartoon levels of abuse and keep on truckin’. All of this collides and gets fucked

Welsh shocker The Feast is an unsettling, eerie slice of horror cinema that jangles the nerves and does a beautiful job of slowly unraveling its secrets until its mind-boggling third act sticks the landing. This is instant classic fright fare, and the film will be hard to topple from its current spot as my favorite horror movie of this year. Food server Cadi (Annes Elwy in a superb performance) is filling in for the woman who usually helps Glenda (Nia Roberts), the wife of politician Gwyn (Julian Lewis Jones), prepare dinners for guests in the couple’s sumptuous, high-tech country home. Invited to dinner are businessman Euros (Rhodri Mielir) and neighbor Delyth (Caroline Berry), and reluctant to attend are the couple’s oldest son Gweirydd (Sion Alun Davies), who is preparing for a triathlon when not displaying perverse behavior, and Guto (Steffan Cennydd), a drug-addicted would-be musician. Today, I’m here to discuss director David S.Hogan’s supernatural thriller The Parish. Scripted by Todd Downing, The Parish stars Devil’s Rejects actor Bill Oberst Jr., Angela DiMarco, Sanae Loutsis, and Ray Tagavilla. The film starts off with the heartbreaking story of a family grieving the loss of Jacob, a husband, and a father. With a plan of starting over, Liz and her daughter Audrey (Sanae Loutsis) move to a new town. It’s not long before the two begin to meet people that others can’t see. The ghost of Jacob gives them stern and mysterious warnings. Luckily, the local priest is there to help when things become darker and more dangerous, revealing the story of a dangerous mystery that has plagued the town for over sixty years. The Parish is slow out of the gate but picks up some speed midway through. If you’re looking for something action-packed this may not be the film for you, but if you are willing

The latest entry into the recent generational familial horror film cycle is the U.K. chiller The Heiress, directed by Chris Bell. It is a supernatural outing that grounds itself well in the real world and that features a solid ensemble cast led by Candis Nergaard as a woman haunted by evil and misunderstood by those closest to her. Claire (Nergaard) has been recently given to seeing things in the house that she shares with her sister Anna (Jayne Wisener) after the death of their grandmother. Things get so bad that their mother (Denise Stephenson) wants her to seek religious counsel and their father (Mark Arden) wants her to go to a psychiatrist. Claire is put away in a psychiatric facility, but whatever it is that is haunting her gets even more malevolent — and far more dangerous — when she is away from her home. Dead Again…where to start? When I sat down to watch writer-director Steven M. Smith’s zombie/alien movie Dead Again I had high hopes, after all, the trailer looked decent. I mean the movie is being described as “Hot Fuzz meets Shaun of the Dead,” so it has to be good, right? My high hopes lasted all of five minutes. As we meet our main characters, two cops played by Tony Fadil and Elliot Cable, they are having a conversation about movies. Soon they get a call about intruders at a closed hospital where they find a couple noising around. It’s not long before the place is swarmed by zombies or are they, zombies? Zombie/aliens, zomiens? You see, aliens are attacking the world. The film is supposed to be funny? Campy? Hell, I don’t know. Instead what we get are lines and scenes that aren’t funny enough to be funny or campy enough to be campy. Dead Again‘s cinematography is a mixed

Irish/U.SA./U.K./Singapore coproduction Son is a dread-filled supernatural horror film that goes to some surprisingly dark places. It is an early entry for my top 10 favorite horror films of the year. Irish writer/director Ivan Kavanagh’s Son opens with a young woman named Laura (Andi Matichak of the 2018 version of Halloween) being chased down by some men who she manages to escape. She then gives birth — to a baby she proclaims that she doesn’t want — in her escape vehicle. The story then jumps ahead eight years. Laura is now a schoolteacher and the loving mother of her son David (Luke David Blumm). She suffers from PTSD because of her earlier escape from a cult (not a spoiler; this is revealed early on) but has seemingly built a rather happy life for herself and David. That is, until she checks in on him one night and finds her sleeping son surrounded by a group of people. After she goes

Remember the 1976 “nature-run-amok” thriller Grizzly? Sure you (probably don’t) do?!! Well great news, a sequel was “sorta” made in 1983, and it features mother fuckin’ George Clooney, Charlie Sheen, Laura Dern, and genre mainstays Louise Fletcher, Deborah Foreman, and John Rhys-Davies (to varying degrees)! Yeah, at this point if you told me Brando played the bear I’d probably be inclined to believe you… Anyway, Grizzly II: Revenge… what’s it about? Glad you didn’t ask! After poachers start offing grizzlies in a national park, a giant-ass bear decides to go ape-shit right at the same time a huge forest-based rock concert (which I refuse to believe are a fucking thing) is set to take place and bring in some much needed revenue for the park. Of course that concert isn’t about to be cancelled due to Yogi puttin’ a murder on everyone thanks to greedy-ass Eileene Draygon (Fletcher) calling the shots. So it falls on the manly shoulders of park
