I took a gander at the Indie Irish horror film Don’t Leave Home. Before I tell you what I thought, you should know what the film’s about. When an artist (Karrie Cox) is called upon to visit the home of a collector and commissioned to create a custom artwork she thinks that her luck may have finally changed. She couldn’t be wrong. Once she arrives at the grand home she learns that the former priest is the wealthy collector that summoned her, but not everything is at it seems. One of her sculptures represents the strange disappearance of a young girl, who had her picture painted by the priest just before she went missing. Her only contact while at the home is with the priest, the woman (Helena Bereen) who runs the home and their driver (David McSavage) who are all very strange. Out of the cast, Helena Bereen stood out the most. Her character Shelly was dark and felt

Young Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) has a hell of a history with ghosts. As a child she was visited by the nightmarish specter of her recently deceased mother who warns her of the dangers of Crimson Peak…whatever the unholy hell that is. Flash forward, and ol’ Edith is hoping to become the Victorian age’s the next Mary Shelley. Soon a mysterious stranger; the enigmatic Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) blows into town and wins Edith’s heart, much to the ire of her father (Jim Beaver). Well soon daddy dearest suffers an “accident” after finding out a sinister secret concerning Sharpe and his sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain), and Edith is whisked away to Sharpe’s dilapidated English manor, Allerdale Hall, as his blushin’ bride. Of course those pesky spirits keep appearing to our heroine, and things are definitely most foul at that arcane abode…and the surrounding land nicknamed Crimson Peak! Dodge (Brandon Micheal Hall), Casper (Sean Strike) and Iris (Virginia Gardner) are small potatoes in the crime scene…just a trio o’ pals committing low-level burglaries and the like…but soon they set their eyes on a bigger prize. Ya see, C-dawg’s pops is in some serious shit with a loan shark to whom he owes ten large and the gang gets the neon light idea to pose as caterers and rob a rich AF family, The Dawsons by name, during a din-din shindig being held at their palatial estates while the family is occupied with the festivities at hand. The only problem? These Dawson characters are a weird lot. Patriarch Patrick (Julian McMahon) and son Elliot (Kian Lawley) are off-putting as balls, though to be fair at first glance mother Roxanne (Robin Tunney) and daughter Alexis (Erin Moriarty) are relatively normal. Young orphan Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) is the type of kid that takes to memorizing dictionaries rather than engaging in the folly of youth. Anyway, Lewis soon takes up residence with his eccentric clock obsessed uncle Jonathon (Jack Black) in his Victorian mansion…a mansion filled with living furniture and more magic than most households (which admittedly hover somewhere around zero on the magic-o-meter). It doesn’t take Lewis long to learn that Jonathan is a real life warlock, and his associate Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett) is no slouch in that department either, which is a damn good thing as the house was once owned by an evil warlock named Isaac Izard (Kyle MacLachlan) who left a clock hidden within the mansion walls that can bring about doomsday when it’s countdown ends. Can our erstwhile heroes find the demonic timepiece before the end of the world…and before Izard himself arrives from the afterlife? Four teenage stereotypes; the horny popular dude, the mousy girly (played by Renée Zellweger of all people), the stoner, and the beautiful good girl head out on a drive after a prom night dust-up between good n’ horny (now available at our concession stand). As they tear ass around the Texas back roads they end up having an accident and seek help at a titty-flashin’ real estate agent’s office. The agent, Darla (Tonie Perensky) by name, calls her boyfriend Vilmer (I’m not going to tell you who plays him…alright, alright, alright, it’s Matthew McConaughey) to help out the troubled teens. Of course he’s a psycho (and a partially hydraulic powered one to boot), and soon our gang of goofs run afoul of ol’ Leatherface (Robert Jacks) and the rest of Vilmer’s crazed clan. Soon you’ll be wondering who will survive, and what will be left of them…or at least how some of the people involved had such huge careers after

Lionsgate’s supernatural thriller The Super, from director Stephen Rick, is approaching its arrival on Blu-ray and DVD. I had the opportunity to watch it and I’d like to share my thoughts with you. “Chicago P.D.” actor Patrick John Flueger stars as Phil, a father who starts a new job as the Super of an apartment building. Phil moves his two daughters, who are still reeling from the loss of their mother, into their new apartment that’s more of a storage room than a home. It doesn’t take long for Phil’s co-worker Walter, played by Val Kilmer, to focus on the girls, especially the youngest, Rose (Mattea Conforti). As the building’s tenants begin to disappear Phil thinks that a killer is at work and comes to believe that Walter may be behind it all. But, not everything is as it seems. A gaggle of anime otaku femmes (played by Allison Maier, Jessica Shipp, and Syndey Thomas respectively) discuss periods and fend off the pervy advances of their talking cat, Neko Sensei (voiced by Laurence R. Harvey from The Human Centipede sequels). Meanwhile on a planet far away from our own, super pervert Fabuloso Doom (Lawrence Sykkmon) consults with his evil magic mirror (voiced by Dana Snyder) about how he can conquer our comely, though decidedly off-limits legally, heroines and stay eternally young and beautiful…which of course he interprets as a need to consume period blood (as anyone would). Gangsters Javid and Tan (Reza Brojerdi and Erkan Acar) are havin’ one fucky day. Seems our “heroes” have found the screenplay to their lives, and decide to seek out and heap abuse upon the documents author; a dentist named Arend (Alexander Schubert) all in the name of figuring out just what in the hell is going on…but he’s about as much use as a fishnet condom. The boys never let this deter their mission; namely finding the sumbitch what put the murder on their families…in a fucked up future version of Berlin populated by singing angels, murderous religious figures, and even more folks out for revenge; namely Eliana (Xenia Assenza) who teams up with a bodyguard with a past named Carson (David Masterson) to avenge the murder of her parents while dealing with cannibals and fucked up robots. As you can tell by that sinister synopsis up yonder; Snowflake is one hell of a bizarre motion picture! along with the

Butch Bigwave stars as the appropriately named Man, one sick ticket of a dude whose hobbies include kidnapping women, tying them up in his apartment, making their bodies resemble hamburger, then carrying on conversations with their severed heads. Brutal indeed. Meanwhile, a woman only known as…well, Woman (Ayano Oami) carries on in much the same manner as Man, just with male victims ‘natch. As fate would have it, these two meet each other and a bizarre pseudo-romance begins that can only culminate in the ultimate display as violence as sex surrogate ever committed to film! Straight up; Brutal lives up to it’s name a thousand-fold. This flick features some of the most nauseating sequences of bloody gore I’ve seen in a damn sight, and they are presented with gritty realism and practical effects glory. Also, as you can surmise, the basic story itself is as off-kilter as you can get and features genital mutilation, gallons of blood, and a surprisingly

Man oh man I love me some Critters…well the first film anyway. To be truthful, I loved the sequel as well, but only ended up seeing it once or twice, and the third and fourth pics? Well, I know I saw them at some point, but I remember fuck-all about them…but that first film; my lord I must have watched that fifty times in the late eighties alone! So, since it’s obviously waaaay past time for a re-visit to the frightful franchise, and since those delicious devils at Scream Factory have just put out a new Blu-ray collection featuring all for films, we begin my latest revoltin’ review for these hallowed haunted halls! To the surprise of no one we begin with: Critters (1986): A group of intergalactic convicts, who resemble the offspring of Fizzgig mating with a porcupine (and we both know that lil’ bastard totally would too), escape a prison asteroid and land near the farm of young
