We reported back in March that Flatliners would be joining the long (long, long, long) list of remakes/reboots coming over the next few years. Now, we have learned via The Wrap that The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev is currently in talks with Sony Pictures to join the reboot’s cast, which already includes Ellen Page (Inception) and Diego Luna (Elysium).
Dobrev currently plays several roles on The Vampire Diaries including Elena Gilbert, a vampire and the doppelganger of Katherine Pierce, a centuries old vampire. Yes, it gets a bit confusing, especially when they are both in an episode. There is one thing, besides the same appearance, that both characters have in common, they have both loved brothers Damon ( Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).
Neils Arden Oplev (Mr. Robot) is set to direct from the script penned by Ben Ripley (Source Code) with Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas producing. Filming for Flatliners is slated to begin this July.
Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt starred in Joel Schumacher’s 1990 supernatural thriller about a group of medical students who put their training to the test. Each one of the friends take their turn dying, briefly, to see what is on the other side only to have their pasts come back to haunt them when they are resuscitated.
Right now, other details of the reboot are slim, but we will update you when we know more. We do know that this time the main cast will star three women and two men, which differs from the original.
