John Hillcoat’s ‘Witchfinder General’ Remake Announced At Cannes

Witchfinder General is the next genre film getting a remake. Deadline reported the news from Cannes that John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless) will be directing the new version written by Jon Croker (Woman In Black 2) with Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive, Neon Demon) serving as producer. In the 1968 original, directed by Michael Reeves and starring Vincent Price, a young soldier seeks to end the evils caused by a vicious witch hunter. I am excited to work with fellow filmmaker Nic Refn, a maverick auteur and who, together with Rupert Preston, have been fully committed to independent cinema over the years. I’m drawn to the dynamic departures behind this remake,” says Hillcoat. “The idea of a world pushed to extremes where fear preys upon all, unleashing religious fanaticism, rival factions, tribalism, heretics, and witch hunts… feels strangely familiar in today’s world.” Refn and Rupert Preston will be producing through Bynwr.com and Sunrise Film along with Hillcoat’s Blank Films. Movie Review: Shed Of The Dead

From writer-director Drew Cullingham comes Shed of the Dead, a horror comedy starring horror icons Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th franchise, Hatchet franchise), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Three from Hell), and Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Devil’s Rejects). Meet Trevor (Spencer Brown) a hen-pecked, jobless guy who spends his days hiding from his wife in a shed or playing war games (think D&D) in the basement of his buddy Grahams’ house. When Trevor learns that his neighbors have signed a petition to have his retreat leveled and to have him kicked off his allotment he is furious. Trevor finally grows some balls and confronts Mr. Parsons (Hodder) things don’t go as planned. Luckily, the zombie apocalypse is about to begin. Trevor comes across like your average loser, he refuses to take responsibility for his problems and would rather blame his wife than ask himself why she acts the way she does which makes him far from a

Blu-ray Review: Room 37: The Mysterious Death of Johnny Thunders (2019)

On April 23rd, 1991, former New York Dolls guitarist and notorious heroin addict Johnny Thunders was found dead at the St Peter House in New Orleans. How this happened as long been one of rock n’ roll’s greatest unsolved mysteries, as an autopsy report found only a minimal amount of drugs in his system (he was attempting to get clean at the time)…but murder has always been a strong contender in his demise. Written and directed by The Cordero Brothers, Room 37: The Mysterious Death of Johnny Thunders presents a fictionalized version of the events surrounding Johnny’s (played to razor sharp perfection by Leo Ramsey) exit from this mortal coil. As our protagonist rolls into town he’s a broken man; his wife has left him, he hasn’t seen his kid in ages, and he’s trying to give up chasing the dragon. Johnny manages to continue his career in The Big Easy, and find some small companionship with hotel staffer Iris
