Legend Meets Real Life: The Kappa Of Kyuushuu And Kappa-dera

WARNING: Some subject matter may be disturbing to some readers. The Kappa is an adorable turtle-like creature with a Moe Howard haircut, big teddybear eyes, and rosy cheeks that make it just so darn cute that you want to pick it up and hug the daylights out of the little critter! This is all in part thanks to animes like Youkai Watch, How to raise a Kappa, and Summer days with Coo as well as little trinkets you can get from a vending machine. In reality, the Kappa is a creature of Japanese folklore that needs to be feared, why? Well for starters they can literally suck the life out of you…by way of your butt. The Kappa whose name in Japanese means “Water Child” is probably one of the most recognizable Yōkai (Japanese mythological creatures), a nymph/goblin-like creature who can be found in rivers and that’s said to be no bigger than a child but have tremendous strength. Kappas

Movie Review: Butcher the Bakers Hits a Sweet Spot Between Laughs and Lacerations!

Where do grim reapers, who in this universe resemble WWF/E great The Undertaker (sans chapeau…yeah baby, that’s some culture for yo’ ass!) go when they are fired? Well, they go to any random small town where they commit acts of unspeakable murder to collect souls for their own sinister ends. Who can stand in this evil’s way? Why Sam and Martin, the mentally challenged employees of the local bakery ‘natch (they actually get hired by a bureaucrat in charge of the reapers to dispatch his wayward charge). Our heroes soon armor up (in ridiculously homemade fashion) and tackle the monstrous menace head on…but can these two idiots overcome a preternatural presence of unimaginable destructiveness? Butcher the Bakers is that rare breed of picture…one that can deftly balance gore and guffaws…well, eventually (more on that in a bit my creeps). Let’s start, as always, with what works in this flick…’cuz puppies and rainbow style positively is the Daniel XIII hallmark! First

Tears Will Flow In The Extended Mid-Season Premiere Of ‘The Walking Dead’

The mid-season premiere of ‘The Walking Dead’ is a month away and fans already know they’re in for heartache. News has come today that the premiere is going to be extended to 82 minutes. Director Greg Nicotero has recently promised that the mid-season premiere of ‘The Walking Dead’ is “one of the most powerful episodes we’ve ever produced,” He also admitted that he broke down while watching the first cut of the premiere. If you’re living on planet Earth you already know that it was revealed in the mid-season finale that Carl has been bitten by a walker so if you’re a fan, have the tissues ready because odds are that it will be Carl’s (Chandler Riggs) last episode. Tears will flow and anger will be expressed on social media, so if you can’t watch the episode the night it airs I recommend taking a vacation from Twitter and Facebook because spoilers will be everywhere! Don’t say we didn’t warn

Does “A Serbian Film” Go Too Far?

Throughout the decades of horror history, a whole lot of films have been claimed to be the hardest watches ever made. Peeping Tom in the 60’s, Salo, in the 70’s, the gamut of Japanese Guinea Pig films, and in the 80’s, and stuff like the French new wave and Asian extreme in the 00’s. But since its release in 2011, no film has even come close to what very might be the pinnacle of cinematic revulsion, “A Serbian Film”. I won’t be discussing the most intimate details of this film because A: They are based around topics not easily discussed even on a horror sight and B: The scene’s content, for the question I’m seeking to answer, doesn’t really matter. Suffice to say these two scenes are absolutely the most extreme I’ve ever seen in a film, and I imagine that nearly anyone who doesn’t dabble in actual snuff films will have seen. To put it bluntly, this is some

Movie Review: Stirring is a Gift for Slasher Fans!

What can be better than a slasher flick that starts with a sorority pledge forced to lap up toilet water and humiliate herself with a pitch black marital aide before she finally snaps and chokes the head of the sorority with said dildo before slicing her up like a prize-winning ham then hanging herself? Honestly, not a hell of a lot I reckon… So after all of that craziness, Stirring starts in earnest when the sister of the now defunct sorority head, Amber by name, joins the same sorority as some sort of half-assed grief therapy. Well, before you can say ‘blood covered yule log’…wait, why would you ever even say that? Anyway…sorority bros and hoes start gettin’ offed right quick by a sinister slasher dressed as a nightmare version of Mrs. Clause and the body count climbs ever upward. Can ol’ Amber and her pals survive the slashin’s going on six ways to Sunday and figure out who is
