Hopefully, we’ve seen our last hurricane for the season, but for those of you that want to experience some hurricane-horror from the comfort of your own couch, here’s a short list of flicks that take place during some of the worst storms Mother Nature can throw at us. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer In this sequel to 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, it’s one year after the killing of a crazy hit-and-run victim turned slasher Ben Willis and survivor girl Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) has won a trip to the Bahamas with some of her new college friends. They arrive at a resort that’s operating with a skeleton crew, and apparently, none of them get the weather

Short Movie Review: ‘The Body’ Is Murderously Amusing

A professional killer has fulfilled his obligation, he has taken a life. All that’s left to do now is dispose of the corporal evidence (that’s corpse to you and me, Rusty). The key to a long tenure in such a vocation is disposing of the evidence cleanly and efficiently without detection of any kind. One would have to be crazy to just brazenly parade their fresh kill around in the open for everyone to see…right? Well it just so happens that our killer is about to do so, and on the one night of the year that nobody would likely give so much as a suspicious glance – Halloween. With “the body” cocooned in plastic, Mr. Killer is now prepared to venture out onto the busy streets of London with his “friend” in tow. On his journey, he will meet all manner of revelers caught up in the Halloween spirit, and they can’t help but compliment him for his “killer”

Before Playboy, Hugh Hefner’s First Magazine Was Horror

Hugh Hefner’s passing to the big Bunny Ranch in the sky is a tragedy that reverberates across pop culture. While Old Hugh was of course most famous for the founding of Playboy Magazine, the only thing Hef loved more than sailor caps and silk pajamas (and ladies) was his love of classic horror movies. Well being Hefner was 91 when he died, he was around when they were just called horror movies. “I grew up loving the classic horror movies of the 1930s. I created a club & fanzine in my teens titled Shudder,” Hefner tweeted back in 2010. He added in a subsequent tweet, shortly thereafter, “I created a Shudder Club & Shudder Magazine Hefner even directed his own film as a teenager, “Return From The Dead”, where he played a mad scientist. Hefner at 16 in “Return From The Dead” Hefner will go down in history for his contributions to the sexual revolution. But behind the man’s man

‘The Thing In The Apartment’ Is Terrifyingly Good (Watch)

Short horror films set out to squeeze the terror and suspense of a horror film into only a few minutes which is a difficult task. A few days ago I watched a short film titled The Thing in the Apartment, written and directed by John William Ross, that left me very impressed and we have it here to share with you. The film, starring Melia Renee as “Sam” and Carly Jones as “Lindsey”, follows a young a woman who suddenly sees a creature in her apartment and flees in terror. The monster, played by Ryan Allan Young, is so terrifying that it leaves her in shock. After calling her friend, the two return to her apartment where things go from bad to worse. The short, which premiered on Crypt TV, was extremely well executed and the actresses did an amazing job. Jones was very convincing when it came to being terrified. If I saw that thing in my room I’d

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Scout Taylor-Compton

It’s almost here my Little Monsters,m October is almost here. And when it arrives, we begin that downhill run towards our beloved holiday, Halloween. In fact it’s with Halloween in mind that I chose this Wednesday’s wonderful Woman of Horror, Scout Taylor-Compton. Now I know there are those rabid fans out there that want to shit all over Rob Zombie’s re-imagining of John Carpenter’s classic, but I happened to like it very much, so I DON’T CARE that anyone else didn’t. Anyway… Desariee Starr Compton is a California girl, having been born in Long Beach, CA on February 21st of 1989. Now I’m not exactly sure when or even why she changed her name to Scout Taylor-Compton. Next time I see her at a con, I’ll have to ask her. And even though both names are perfectly lovely, I do admit that Scout just kind of stands out. As the daughter of a mortician, Scout definitely became conditioned to handle

Bigger Than Harry Knowles

Me Too A recent wave of sexual harassment allegations against Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles has moved through the film world. Knowles is accused of allegedly groping, fondling, verbally accosting and making unsolicited advances against a number of women over the years. The famed “Head Geek” of the pioneering film website announced he was taking a leave of absence placing his sister in charge of the site. This news comes on the heels of similar allegations against The Alamo Drafthouse. Online response was swift and hard, condemning the alleged actions of Harry Knowles and Drafthouse writer, Devin Faraci. Some of Knowles’s best veteran writers as Eric “Quint” Vespe have resigned their positions in protest and out of good moral conscience. The allegations continue to roll in and Knowles seems to have taken a very casual response to the scandal, calling his exile from Fantastic Fest a chance to “mind the store” and devote more time to his website.
