Movie Review: Exhuma (2024) – Well Go USA Blu-ray
Lee Hwa-rim (Kim Go-eun) and Yoon Bong-gil (Lee Do-hyun) are a shaman duo that offers their services to those that are plagued by the vengeful spirits of deceased family members… like the one plaguing the wealthy Park family, and let me tell ya, this one’s a fuckin’ doozy of a creepy case. So complex is the job, that our heroes call in the help of geomancer Kim Sang-deok (Choi Min-sik) and his coroner partner Go Yeong-geun (Yoo Hae-jin) to assist in the exhumation of the relative’s coffin via a traditional ceremony after which the coffin and remains will be cremated. No matter how seasoned our shamans are, things go tits up with the quickness once a rain delay keeps that corpse from getting crispy (can’t burn ’em on a soggy day… bad luck) and of course some ass just has to go and open the coffin setting the evill spirit free to go on a supernatural bender that spells bad

Star in your own Noir story in ‘Shadows of Doubt’
Sometimes a good Noir film is what the doctor orders, a classic “Who Done it” story, a detective or private eye working on a blade’s edge between law and crime, a city full of danger and suspects, they don’t make good noir films anymore, but a game like Shadows of Doubt from ColePowerd Games and Fireshine Games will put you in the rain-drenched trench coat of a former cop turned Private Investigator. Shadows of Doubt is a first-person procedurally generated stealth game where players explore the open world of a city and help solve crimes to earn both money and Social Credits to earn the right to go to the retirement sector outside this sci-fi dystopian city. Now, onto the game itself! Controls for Shadows of Doubt are a bit tricky to master at first, even during the tutorial level, but not really anything bad. It’s just a bit annoying if you want to get right to playing. I like

Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost is back with Get Away, which he wrote and will star in. Get Away is described as a comedic slasher. It follows a family on a vacation that goes horribly wrong when they discover a serial killer inhabiting the island. The first trailer teases a must-see movie featuring Frost’s iconic comedic style, morbid humor, murder, and town out to ruin the family’s good time. Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper), Maisie Ayres, and Eero Milonoff join Nick Frost in the upcoming killer horror-comedy. The director of Get Away, Steffan Haars, has expressed his excitement for the project. “I am super hyped that ‘Get Away’ found its perfect partner in IFC Films and Shudder to bring the film to North American audiences. We can’t wait to invite everyone on this killer trip with the Smith family to the unwelcome island of Svälta.” Nick Frost is best known for his multiple collaborations with

An Interview with the Cast of ‘Salem’s Lot’
One of the year’s most highly anticipated horror films is Gary Dauberman’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. With its premiere only days away, I sat down with the film’s cast, including Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, and Spencer Treat Clark, to discuss the movie, their characters, special effects, and much more. The film is set in 1975, when King’s original novel was published. Salem’s Lot follows author Ben Mears as he returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot. Haunted by a childhood incident, Mears seeks inspiration for his next book. Ben soon discovers that the town is being terrorized by a bloodthirsty vampire and its loyal servant. The film experienced multiple delays. If you are wondering if it was worth waiting for, my review, which you can find HERE, will answer that question. Salem’s Lot, a film you can really sink your teeth into, will bare its fangs on MAX on October 3. Watch the new Salem’s

Movie Review: The Million Eyes of Sumuru (1967) – Blue Underground 4K/Blu-ray Combo
Sumuru (Goldfinger‘s Shirley Eaton) is one deadly woman, she’s also a near-comic book styled super-villain hell bent on replacing the powerful male leaders of the world of the Swinging Sixties with her cadre of her murderous all-girl army, members of whom kill men with their thighs for kicks! One such attempt of Sumuru’s evil plan leads to a threat being made on the life of the leader of Sinonesia, President Boong (played by noted lunatic Klaus Fuckin’ Kinski) which results in horny C.I.A. operatives Nick West (George Nader) and Tommy Carter (Frankie Avalon sans beach, blanket, and bingo) being called in to investigate by by the head of British Intelligence, Sir Anthony Baisbrook (Wilfrid Hyde-White, whom you may remember from the original Battlestar Galactica, or that Star Trek-ass second season of Buck Rogers). Our (occasionally) hammered heroes are hot on the case and travel from Europe to Hong Kong where they are soon up to their asses in the machinations

Chucky Gets Axed!
Sad news in the world of horror today. After 3 full seasons, the TV series CHUCKY has officially been canceled by Syfy/USA, as reported by Variety. The show enjoyed a solid run, bringing back series stalwarts such as the legendary Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky, Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany (and herself), and Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay all grown up. We also got some great additions like Zachary Arthur as Jake, Alyvia Alyn Lind as Lexy, Bjorgvin Arnarson as Devon, and even Devon Sawa as POTUS. The incredible Fiona Dourif portraying a young version of Charles Lee Ray was the highlight of the show for me. The way she mirrored her father’s performance from the original “Child’s Play” was nothing short of spectacular. Unfortunately, none of this was enough to save the show from the inevitable chopping block. If I’m being frank, though, after the less than stellar, awfully messy and convoluted season 3, I’m really not all

‘Caddo Lake’ Produced by M. Night Shyamalan Scores New Trailer
HBO’s upcoming original film Caddo Lake, produced by M. Night Shyamalan (Trap), has unveiled a new unnerving and intense trailer. Caddo Lake plays out against the haunting backdrop of the Southern bayou and back roads lined with cypress trees. It follows a series of past deaths and disappearances that come to light when an eight-year-old girl vanishes mysteriously. Long-buried truths and newly surfaced mysteries will forever alter the history of a broken family and those around them. It stars Eliza Scanlen, Dylan O’Brien, Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, and Sam Hennings. Eric Lange and Lauren Ambrose round out the cast. The story’s inspiration was born from a single photograph discovered online of the real Caddo Lake, which filmmakers Celine Held and Logan George became captivated by. This led the two to make numerous visits to the cypress forest, which straddles the border of Texas and Louisiana, leading to the film being shot over 2021 and 2022 in and around the town

Spoiler-Free Reviews: WHAT HAPPENED TO DOROTHY BELL? and FACES (Fantastic Fest)
What Happened to Dorothy Bell? An interesting investigation of familial trauma and mental illness through a horror lens, What Happened to Dorothy Bell? uses a combination of vintage-style footage (not found footage, to clarify, although the approach is similar) and present-day proceedings. Protagonist Ozzie (Asya Meadows) was attacked when she was a child by her titular grandmother (Arlene Arnone Bibbs). Now a young adult, Ozzie searches for answers to why that happened and also about her grandmother’s disappearance. As might be expected with a family as the focus in a horror film, skeletons lurk in the closet and the supernatural may well be at play. What Happened to Dorothy Bell? has the feel of a gateway horror film, with its surprises and shocks not approaching very scary levels nor reveling in gory effects work. Lingering shots of rooms in which something may or may not happen in the background and noises from other rooms make for most of the suspenseful

Movie Review: ‘Salem’s Lot’ Is a Movie Worth Sinking Your Fangs Into
After years of anticipation, Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot finally arrives on MAX this Halloween season. Despite initial concerns about the film’s quality due to the lengthy development process and multiple delays, I can tell you now that it was worth waiting for. The story follows Ben, a writer returning to his hometown to investigate a childhood incident and seek inspiration for his next book. However, he soon discovers a sinister plot in the town: a bloodthirsty vampire and its servant terrorize the residents. Ben and a group of brave residents team up to save their loved ones and neighbors before it’s too late. Lewis Pullman delivers a compelling performance as Ben, portraying him as a relatable and determined protagonist. The cast, including Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Camp, also shine in their respective roles. The talented young actor Jordan Preston Carter, who plays Mark, is especially impressive as a resilient and courageous character. Carter performs
