The Numinous by Tristan Michie

The Numinous by Tristan Michie could most easily be classified as a science fiction-thriller, but it definitely has some horror and suspense elements thrown in. Although I made contact with Michie in a writing group, I was interested in reading The Numinous based on the premise, alone. One of my favorite films is Event Horizon and I couldn’t help but see the resemblance in the book’s concept. Book Description: Light years away from home drifts a cold, bleak ship; seemingly void of all life……. Markus Clyde woke from his Stasis in a lonely, dark room, dimly lit by the emergency power. With not another soul in sight. In his confused and disorientated state, he desperately tries to figure out what has happened, why was he here? Where are the rest of the crew? With power rapidly failing and disturbing events occurring throughout the ship, he finds himself in a race against time. To get the ship home……. Or die trying.

The 40th Anniversary Of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Today, August 14, 2015, marks the 40th anniversary of one of my very favorite movies, the 1975 classic ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. You would have to be from outer space to have never have heard of the ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. It’s fantastic for so many reasons, it’s unforgettable characters, great lines, fun musical numbers. It truly is one of a kind. The movie also happens to be the longest running film in cinema history. In ‘the Rocky Horror Picture Show’ love birds Brad and Janet (Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandaon) are on their way to see the professor, Dr. Everett V. Scott, played by Jonathan Addams, to tell him of their engagement. Along the way the car gets a flat, “how about that”. The two walk to a mansion they saw a ways back, but they’re in for a wild night. The door is answered by the butler/handyman Riff Raff (Richard O’Brien). The enter the home to

Shane Black To Direct The New Predator Sequel

Most every horror fan is familiar with the 1987 movie ‘Predator’. The horror classic starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers and was directed by John McTiernan. In the movie a team of commandos are sent to the jungles of Central America and find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior. Since it’s release there have been 7 films, not counting the AVP movies. Shane Black, the director of ‘Iron Man 3’, is now working on a new sequel to ‘Predator’. I think that it’s fitting that Black is involved and is direct. After all, Black has a serious connection to the original movie, he played the role of Hawkins. Little is known about the new film, except that Black is co-writing the script with Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad). It has been said that the movie will be a direct sequel and will bypass the AVP movies and it’s rumored that Tyrone Magnus and Emma Stone have both signed on for

Cynema: Ed Wood–Hollywood’s Whipping Boy

No Respect Apparently Michael Medved, the respected film critic gets the credit with dubbing Edward Wood, Jr. the “worst director of all time” by referring to Wood’s crowning film achievement, Plan Nine From Outer Space as perhaps the worst motion picture ever made. This is not only to come to the late Mr. Wood’s defense, but to also show how off the mark Mr. Medved was in his 1980 book The Golden Turkey Awards. Wood is the antithesis of Cynema–his passion and love for film makes him one of Hollywood’s greatest directors. Say what you want about Plan Nine, Bride of the Monster or Glen or Glenda…bad films, yes. Bad directing, absolutely. However Ed Wood was not a cynic. This column will show why films like Jaws The Revenge, Godzilla 1998 and other big budget films are far worse than anything Ed Wood ever put out, including Plan 9. By many accounts, including his own, Plan 9 From Outer Space

Haunted Puppet Caught Moving On Film

People have been trying to prove that the world of the paranormal exists for as long as history can remember. Paranormal investigator Jayne Harris believes she has proof and it has been caught on film. Harris began her investigation into claims that a puppet attempted to choke it’s owner to death. Harris filmed the doll, which is now kept inside a glass box, every night for three months. One day after reviewing the night’s film she noticed that the puppet moved inside it’s box. The owner said that activity began just two weeks after he inherited the puppet. He stated “I was wide awake in bed and thought I saw a shadow move from one side of the window to the other and worried something was trying to scare us.” He continued “Then without warning my throat suddenly went really tight, I’ve never had anyone’s hands around my throat before so it was really scary. While I was choking I

Paramount is moving forward with the sequel to 2013’s action-fantasy movie ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’. Both Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (The Voices) will be returning as the ass-kicking, witch-hunting brother and sister team, this time to take on an even bigger threat. Tracking Board has reported that acclaimed French photographer and director Bruno Aveillan will be at the sequel’s helm. Paramount went in search for a new writer to rewrite the present script, which was penned by Tommy Wirkola, and found Michael Finch (Agent 47). Beau Flynn will return as a producer, through Flynn Pictures Company, along side Will Ferrell, Kevin Messick and Adam McKay under the banner of their Gary Sanchez Productions company.

Interview: Chris Welsh Of “Wart-The Comic”

A bit about the book from it’s creator: Wart is an original horror comic series starring Wart Bellamy, an unfortunate young fellow ripped from his reality and tossed into a mysterious, other-worldly ‘Asylum for the Belligerently Insane’. It’s written by Chris Welsh (from the UK) and drawn by Ammar Al-Chalabi (from The Netherlands). There are monsters, cults, ghosts, rats, and a shady doctor in charge of the whole thing. Wart’s story takes him through multiple dimensions that threaten both his physical health and his crumbling sanity. Along the way he makes friends, enemies and gets incrementally closer to finding out just what the hell is going on. The series is independently published, Lovecraft-influenced cosmic horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Our first two books have been incredibly well received, and we’ve just launched the Kickstarter to fund Book Three. I was fortunate enough to be able to ask the writer of Wart, Chris Welsh, a few questions for this
