A Crime Goes Terribly Wrong In The Trailer For ‘Nefarious’

Ash Mountain Films, the makers of 2018’s hit indie folk horror Dogged have released the trailer for their new home invasion horror-thriller, Nefarious. Directed by Richard Rowntree and starring Toby Wynn-Davies (Dogged, Escape from Cannibal Farm), Nadia Lamin (Dogged, Hosts) and newcomer Buck Braithwaite, Nefarious marks the second full-length feature film from the company, and promises a very different ride from their previous film. In the film, “Darren, Lou, Jo, and Mas live a meager existence on the fringes of poverty. Indebted to the criminal kingpin of their social housing development, they routinely fear for their lives. On the other side of town, the already wealthy Marcus and his handicapped brother Clive receive a windfall in the form of a winning lottery ticket. When their worlds collide following a botched robbery, the would-be criminals get more than they bargained for, and will be tested to their limits in a desperate attempt to survive a predator of monstrous proportions.” Shot over

A Serial Killer Spills Blood In The First Batch Of Images From ‘ARTIK’

Award-winning filmmaker, Tom Botchii, is gearing up for the World Premiere of his horror-thriller, ARTIK. With Popcorn Frights just weeks away, we have an exclusive look at brutal stills from the film to share with you. In the film, “a comic book obsessed serial killer teaches his son how to get away with a series of brutal murders until the boy befriends a mysterious man who threatens to expose everything.” It sounds funny but making ARTIK, a film about a murderer, was actually, kind of healing. Truth is, the character himself is loosely based on my dad and the character of Holton was based around an ex-girlfriend,” says Botchii. “So from the moment that I started writing, it felt like the story was just pouring out of me and releasing a lot of pent up emotion. And that was the original goal, do something that gets this off my chest, but also works as a small, independent horror production. Then,

Blu-ray Review: The Leopard Man (1943)

Kiki Walker (Jean Brooks) is losing her audience at the New Mexico club in which she performs to a Latin dancer named Clo-Clo (Margo), so her manager, Jerry (Dennis O’Keefe), gets the shit-hot idea to add a leopard into her act…and seriously, what could go wrong shoving a large, angry cat into a noisy room of half-drunk folks? Naturally, the answer to that is everything, as Kiki’s rival spooks the beast which exits stage left and goes on a maul-spree around the countryside…but there may be more to the killings than appears on the surface. Filled with a nice sense of mounting tension, creepy atmospherics (no surprise with the legendary Val Lewton serving as producer of the film), and even a dash of mystery, The Leopard Man is a damn solid low-budget shocker. O’Keefe makes for a fine square-jawed hero, the supporting players are charismatic and their characters have surprising depth (especially Margo’s Clo-Clo who has aspirations of wealth and

Movie Review: Hi-Death (2018)

Here it comes boils n’ ghouls; another arcane anthology that will assault our putrid peepers with a multitude of fun-sized fright flicks! Let’s see how Hi-Death stacks up, and if it’ll contain more hits than misses… The obligatory wrap-around segment comes in the form of Terror Tour (written and directed by Brad Sykes) which features two comely lasses taking a horror based tour of L.A. while watching a series of tremble inducing tales along the way. In my opinion these are always the most superfluous of segments in these things, and this gets the job done okay. First up comes Anthony Catanese’s Death Has a Conscience; which tells the story of hardcore music fan and addict (of the fictional drug Spit) Erin (Jensen Jacobs) who decides to come down in a rank-ass motel room. Sounds prosaic enough, except the ol’ Grim Reaper makes the scene to have a heart to heart with our heroine! I enjoyed this one quite a

Blu-ray Review: The Andromeda Strain (1971)

The US Air Force’s Project Scoop deploys a small unit to retrieve a satellite that has crashed back to Earth near Piedmont, New Mexico. Sounds easy enough; except the entire town is now dead A.F. and the folks sent to investigate end up the same thanks to something that hitched a ride on said satellite. Enter: Dr. Jeremy Stone (Arthur Hill) who warned this type of shit would go down years previous and was ostracized for his trouble. Now Uncle Sam comes practically begging for his assistance; and that of his team; Drs. Dutton, the brassy Leavitt and Hall (David Wayne, Kate Reid, and James Olson, respectively) and ships them off to the high tech underground facility known as Wildfire. Once there the work begins (after a series of wacky…and hilarious tests and decontamination protocols) to isolate the lethal life form (which of course is mutating) while determining why two people from Piedmont (an old drunk and a six-month-old baby)

James Fuertes Talks ‘The Odds’ And ‘Doom Patrol’ In An Interview

After watching Bob Giordano’s The Odds I got in touch with actor James J. Fuertes. His character in the film was so complex and well played that I wanted to know more about the character and the actor. Fuertes, who has appeared in films like Venom, Anathem, and series like DC’s “Doom Patrol”, “Nashville”, and “The Bachelorette”, and I sat down to talk about The Odds, which left me so very impressed. Fuertes co-stars alongside Abbi Butler in The Odds, a film about a young woman who joins a mysterious underground game of pain and endurance in hopes of winning a $1,000,000 prize. Fuertes plays the role of the “Game Master” a figure meant to keep the player on track and motivated, only after a few rounds his trues colors begin to show, revealing a demented man with his own agenda. Horror Fuel: “How would you describe The Odds?” James Fuertes: “The ODDS is a psychological thriller where a woman
