Movie Review: 2021’s Alien Invasion Fillm ‘Risen’ Is Left Lacking

Writer-director Eddie Arya’s sci-fi thriller Risen will land On Demand later this August. We got the chance to check it out and here’s what we thought. Starring Nicole Schalmo, Jack Campbell, and Dominic Stone, Risen begins with a family sitting down to dinner before suddenly the house begins to shake as something crashes into the nearby field. This is the first contact with something otherworldly. The film then skips ahead to find the girl, as an adult and a doctor who the military assigns to a case similar to the one from her childhood. An entire town is dead, or are they? The trouble really begins when the dead begin to rise as the aliens take over their bodies. Risen starts off with a good pace but two scenes in, it slows down like it’s stuck in quicksand. And it stays that way with long lulls between the action throughout the entire movie. Save for a handful of scenes, the

Blu-ray Review: Cannibal Man (1972)

Main-man Marcos (Vincente Parra) is an aimless, loner of a slaughterhouse employee spends what there is of his existence dreaming of a better life. Well at least he has his best gal Paula (Emma Cohen). Speaking of ol’ P-dawg, her and Marcos go at it hot n’ heavy in the back of a taxi after a date, which really infuriates the driver to no fuckin’ end… so much so that Marcos ends up killing the dude outright! As is the way, Paula knows too much, so her ass has to go… and we are off to the races as Marcos just can’t stop killing to cover his tracks… which seems a bit like the snake eatin’ it’s own tail, but who can figure out the mind of a complete psycho on a murder binge… I gotta be upfront with you lot, Cannibal Man is one of the biggest loads of bullshit to ever be printed on a movie poster… Marcos

4K-UHD Review: Cat O’ Nine Tails (1971)

Blind crossword puzzle author (is that what people who create those things are even called???) Franco (Karl Malden, proving he walked the streets of Rome before those of San Francisco) is taking a stroll one night with his young niece Lori (Cinzia De Carolis) when he overhears a plan to blackmail a scientist who works at a top secret genetic institute…well, not too top secret if they are blabbing about it right out in the damn street and all…oh, and there’s a robbery in there somewhere as well. Anyway Franco eventually teams up with a journalist by the name of Carlo (everyone’s favorite ‘not-quite-Charlton Heston’ James Franciscus) to solve the case, but there ends up being a metric shit-ton of the ol’ murder biz about, so these two dudes are most likely in way over their heads… Admittedly, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the giallo genre; they’ve always played out more like a typical murder mystery with a

Ahead of its premiere at Fantasia, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural has snagged the rights to the film which will premiere on the streaming service in 2022. The Last Thing Mary Saw begins in Southold, New York, 1843: Young Mary (Stefanie Scott, Insidious: Chapter 3), blood trickling from behind the blindfold tied around her eyes, is interrogated about the events surrounding her grandmother’s death. As the story jumps back in time, we witness Mary, raised in a repressively religious household, finding fleeting happiness in the arms of Eleanor (Isabelle Fuhrman, Orphan), the home’s maid. Her family, who believe they are seeing, speaking, and acting on God’s behalf, view the girls’ relationship as an abomination, to be dealt with as severely as possible. The couple attempts to carry on in secret, but someone is always watching, or listening,
