Movie Review (Panic Fest 2021): The Blazing World

Carlson Young makes a flashy-looking splash with her debut feature film The Blazing World, which she directs, cowrites (with Pierce Brown), and stars in. The film is rich in gorgeous imagery and dreamlike set pieces, but could use a bit more in characterization and story. Young twin sisters Margaret (Josie Fink) and Elizabeth (Lillie Fink) are playing in a field with fireflies around them. Inside their stately home, their parents — Tom (Dermot Mulroney) and Alice (Vinessa Shaw) Winter — are fighting, verbally and physically. Elizabeth falls into the family’s pool and drowns, with the parents running outside when they hear Margaret’s screams. As the parents pull Elizabeth out of the pool, Margaret turns to look away from the horror and notices an odd man — Udo Kier as Lained — beckoning her to join him as he stands near a wormhole-like portal. Flash forward about 20 years to Margaret (Carlson Young of Scream: The TV Series), who is now

An Interview With Actress Valerie Jane Parker About Her Role In The Supernatural-Horror ‘The Voices’

After a terrible car accident, Lilly, a young girl loses her sight but gains the ability to hear the dead. As she grows older and builds a good life with her husband, when she becomes pregnant the voices become louder, wanting their souls to be chosen to become her baby’s. That’s the premise of award-winning filmmaker Nathaniel Nuon’s The Voices starring actress Valerie Jane Parker (Wrong Turn 2021) in the role of Lilly (as an adult). I sat down with Valarie to discuss her role in the film. Horror Fuel: “How difficult was it to play someone who has lost their sight?” Valarie Jane Parker: “It was a challenge but I enjoyed the challenge. The main thing for me was I wanted to make sure that I made the portrait authentic. I didn’t want it to be cheap or fake in any way, so I spent about a month preparing for it. I watched a bunch of documentaries on how

Movie Review: ‘The Seventh Day’ Is The Exorcism Movie We’ve Been Praying For

Justin P. Lange’s new supernatural horror The Seventh Day has just been released. The film follows exorcist Father Peter (Guy Pearce) who teams up with a rookie apprentice for his first day of training. As they plunge deeper into hell on earth, the lines between good and evil blur, and their own demons emerge. I’ll be honest before I sat down to watch The Seventh Day I had assumed it would be your average exorcism movie, I can now tell you that I was wrong. Seventh Day is far from the exorcism movies we’ve come accustomed to. What we usually get is a movie that’s predictable with a story we feel like we’ve seen a hundred times. Truthfully, we haven’t gotten a really good exorcism movie since The Exorcist III, until now. I have a talent for guessing the way a movie will end, but this movie left me completely surprised and packs one hell of a twist that you
