Movie Review: Nobody (2021) Is The Only Action Movie You Have To See This Year

Let me get this out of the way, I am fully aware that Nobody isn’t a horror movie, but I watched it and I have to share my thoughts on it, so read on or exit, your choice. Directed by Ilya Naishuller and written by Derek Kolstad, Nobody stars Emmy Award-winner Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) as Hutch, a family man who is drifting apart from his wife and nobody respects him. They have no idea who he used to be. After a home invasion, Hutch is at rock bottom until his daughter tells him the thieves took her bracelet which flips a switch in him, and he sets off on a mission to retrieve it. This is when we learn the mild-mannered father is actually a badass who used to kill for the government. After beating the hell out of a group of guys he learns that one is the brother of a Russian gangster who now wants revenge.

Bad News For “Lovecraft Country” Fans

Back in 2020, Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams‘ brilliant HBO series “Lovecraft Country” made one hell of an impact on viewers with an amazing story, a brilliant cast, and a ton of fantastic special effects, and exploration of racism in the Jim Crow era, which makes the fact that the show has just been canceled somewhat of a surprise. We will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘Lovecraft Country,’” HBO said in a statement. “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.” The reason the cancelation is not completely a surprise is the fact that the series, based upon the novel by Matt Ruff, has run its course with its main star being killed off. In all honesty, the story would more than likely suffer if it was to continue.

While details are being kept quiet, we do know that the seventh installment of the franchise will not be about Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), instead it will be a completely new story and will be set on Earth. Howley revealed a few details during a recent interview with Vanity Fair. Hawle said “The alien stories are always trapped… trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate. Those are great monster movies, but they’re not just monster movies,” Hawley continued, “They’re about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future—and
