‘Halloween’s’ Danny McBride Behind New ‘Garbage Pail Kids’ Series

If you were around in the 80s and early 90s, odds are you will remember the Garbage Pail Kids, the gross characters that were a twist on the Cabbage Patch Kids. The characters first appeared as trading cards with gum and a sticker that were so cringe-worthy that they were banned in schools. In 1987 they got their own live-adaption movie which holds an impressive 0% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by a tv series. Now, they are back and they are getting a new animated series! Danny McBride’s (Halloween, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends) Rough House Pictures and Michael Eisner‘s Tornante Company, which owns the baseball card giant Topps, the original creators of Garbage Pail Kids, are producing the series that Bride will write along with “Solar Opposites” Josh Bycel. Some of the original characters include Jay Decay, a zombie; Drippy Dan, a doll covered in holes with fluid leaking out; Messy Tessie, who has a massive amount

Produced with hand-rotoscoped animation, The Spine of Night is inspired by the classic works of artists like Ralph Bakshi and Frank Franzetta, and the fantasy genre as it was in the 1970s: boundary-pushing, politically progressive, and utterly fearless. THE SPINE OF NIGHT is like the insane love child of Heavy Metal and Mandy,” said Mark Ward, Chief Acquisitions Officer at RLJE Films. “The audience response out of SXSW proves this is an instant classic that will be playing on midnight movie screens for years to come.” Craig Engler, GM of Shudder says “It’s a fantasy-horror epic that rides lightning directly into the hearts of genre and cult film fans.” Written and directed by Philip
