George James Fraser’s ‘Scaring Sheri’, Part Of ‘United States Of Horror’ Series, Is Awesome AF

Shot at the world-famous Haunted Overload in Lee, New Hampshire, Scaring Sheri stars Sheri Lee (Doll House) and Johnny J. Gordon who is making his film debut. Scaring Sheri plays out against an absolutely amazing backdrop featuring hundreds of lit pumpkins and monsters making it spooky AF and adding to the tension because you’re on guard not knowing when or where a scare is going to come from. The cinematography for the eight-minute, fifteen-second long film is fantastic. With a rich look, a nice pace, and good effects, watching Scaring Sheri was a pleasure. And the fact that we get a feisty lead character that actually has some fight in her is a major bonus. The soundtrack is pure metal

Blu-ray Review: Tales of the Uncanny (2020)

Director David Gregory (Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson, Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau) sets his sinister sights on the wicked world of arcane anthologies with his latest documentary effort; Tales of the Uncanny, which comes to us on Blu-ray courtesy of those crafty lil’ minxes o’er at Severin! Gregory, along with author and founder of The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies Kier-La Janisse, take a chronological journey through the putrid plethora of anthology-style fright flicks that have tickled the fiendish fancy of horror hounds world fuckin’ wide… from the silent era, to the truly suburb Amicus flicks of the shockin’ seventies (and the pictures created by Milton Subotsky after the legendary studio folded), to television (The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, et al.), to Creepshow and it’s descendants… all is paid heed (though some all too briefly, such as one of yours cruelly’s fav anthology films; Joseph

Blu-ray Review: The Theater Bizarre (2011)

Enola Penny (Virginia Newcomb) enters a ramshackle theater where a human-sized puppet (horror legend Udo Kier) offers up strange tales of… well strange-ass shit (all loosely fitting the gore-packed French theater tradition of Grand Guignol… shows comprised of short horror vignettes containing copious bloodshed and gore) in what serves as the framing segments of off-the-rails horror anthology The Theater Bizarre, one of the newest Blu-ray offerings from those delightful devils over at Severin! Kicking of this creepy collection of terror tales is Richard Stanley’s The Mother Of Toads, which concerns the misadventures of young travelers Martin (Shane Woodward) and Karina (Victoria Maurette) who, as fate would have it, encounter Mere Antoinette (Lucio Fulci regular Catriona MacColl)… a mystic jewelry seller who claims to have a copy of the fabled Necronomicon, which interests Martin to no fuckin’ end! Karina soon pisses off to the spa, leaving Martin to explore all of Antoinette’s wicked wonders… which results in a glimpse at the

Blu-ray Review: Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America (2003)

Family Portraits: A Trilogy Of America is an arcane anthology, so let’s see what each story has to offer our eerie eyeballs before we get a lil’ of that sweet, sweet overview action, shall we boils n’ ghouls? The first story up is Cutting Moments: As is the way of suburbia in Anytown U. S. of fuckin’ A., a wife and mother (Nicca Ray in a solid performance that runs the gamut from doubt to absolutely batshit purpose) plays homemaker while her sicko of a hubby (Gary Betsworth) is playin’ the Chester the Molester bag with their young son. Our heroine gets the idea that she should be the one getting her husband’s attention so she starts to try and bring him around with a lil’ make-up, a sexy dress, some self-mutilation… you know, the usual stuff. Well, this is a pitch-dark way to kick tings off and let me tell ya cats n’ creeps this one does indeed shock

DVD Reviews: Moon of the Blood Beast (2019) and Tales for the Campfire 3 (2020)

One unexpected side effect of writing fright flicks for scads of years, and actually working in the horror biz, is that sometimes I’m called on to review something only to discover that folks are involved that I’ve worked with in one capacity or another. I always try and throw a disclaimer of some sort on those types of things, but honestly it’s becoming a lil’ too frequent, so soon I’ll begin to severely limit these types of reviews just to keep things square. To that end let me state, my reviews are always honest and upfront; but my scale of quality truly is unique. Let’s do a numbered list type of thing where I walk you through this shit… Yes, everything I review is sent to me for free in exchange for my honest thoughts. Yes, my thoughts are given with 100% honesty… but know this; I LOVE ultra-low budget horror (and exploitation), and if I feel something was made

Movie Review: Deathcember (2019)

The latest horror anthology to hit the sinister scene, Deathcember, presents to us a literal arcane avalanche of terror tales (presented via an advent calendar wrap-around), most with a Christmas theme… and let me tell ya; this is one wicked whopper of a fright flick as it clocks in at an oh so brief two hour and twenty three minute runtime! It would be impossible, and really fuckin’ long, to take you through each and every segment presented here… oh fuck it; I’ll give it a (sorta brief) go… First up we get Dominic Saxl’s A Door Too Far; the neo-Brother’s Grimm-like tale of a greedy boy that can’t keep to eating just one piece of his advent calendar chocolate a day with dire results, followed by All Sales Fatal, Michael Varrati’s tale of a Karen named Claire (genre stalwart Tiffany Shepis) gone berserk… well more berserk than normal, Christmas on a contamination-riddled spaceship in Lazar Bodroza’s Aurora, Florian Frerichs’
