DC Announces ‘Fear State’, An Event Featuring The Release Of Five New Comic Issues

This Fall, The Scarecrow is sending Gotham City straight to Hell, and it’s up to Batman and his allies to stop it DC is taking readers to Fear State, a horror-themed Gotham City event that unifies plot threads started in DC’s fan-favorite publishing events, DC Future State and Infinite Frontier. Let me tell ya cats n’ creeps; DC Comics has got one hell of a creepy collection of comics headed your way this monstrous month! Don’t believe me? Check out the sinister skinny on these revoltin’ releases! “DC has a host of new monster-filled, action-packed comics that will surely satisfy every reader’s needs for the spooky season. Some of this month’s most tantalizing releases include DC GHOSTS GIANT #1, a staggering 100-page print that includes three new supernatural stories written by Dan Jurgens, Keith Giffen and John Layman respectively, along with six other beautifully reprinted haunted tales. Not to be outdone, DC is returning to the beloved world of “Red Rain” in SECRETS OF SINISTER HOUSE, an 80-page anthology of terror curated with stories and artwork by Paul Dini, Bryan Hill and John Romita. Opinion: The Rise Of Super Hero Horror?

After the trailer for the upcoming horror film Brightburn is still lingering in people’s minds and the growing anticipation of The New Mutants release, there’s something that can’t be ignored. In the current age of Superhero movies, these two are unique as they’re clearly horror films told in their own unique ways. The New Mutants, based on the comic series of the same name follows five young individuals who are being kept in a secret facility where they begin to learn that they have the “X-Gene”. While trying to understand their situation, the mutants experience terrifying visions that involve their past. The New Mutants is the first in a trilogy where as the next two films will feature mutants Karma and Warlock, and yes these films will be horror as well. Attack of the Rotten Tomatoes

The Sites Rotten Tomatoes ruined the summer 2017 boxoffice. The New York Times published this article on film review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes (read here). The site has been around almost twenty years. I was first introduced to it back in 2003-2004. As the Internet gained more of a foothold, Rotten Tomatoes expanded its base; and now, according to this article, its power to influence box office performance. Sounds like those parents who subscribe to the “not my kid” mentality. Couldn’t possibly be US, it has to be the school, society…anyone but us and the bad product we made. I wrote a similar article, which could be a companion piece (here) a few months earlier when another finger pointing article on RT got some press. Can a website that amasses critical reviews have so much impact on a film’s box office performance? Hollywood spins it both ways whenever convenient. The Remake The road to the remake is a winding one. There is no clear pathway toward the answer of whether they are good or bad, needed or unwanted. They exist. They will continue to be made because there is demand. My previous article opened with a quote from George Bush’s post 9-11 speech which hinted at “living life” is a series of consuming events that follow an image that has been dictated to us by a media assault that has shaped us since birth. So what does that have to do with filmmaking and entertainment? Does art imitate life or the other way around? Why is Disney the Mecca of family vacations? Who said women are to look a certain way, smoking is glamorous, drinking a soda makes you like Michael Jackson or Beyonce? We have a new generation growing up with incredible access to entertainment.
