John Carpenter Confirms Involvement With New Reboot Of ‘The Thing’

For fans of John Carpenter, we have some exciting news. This Saturday, while the Master of Horror was receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award during the Fantasia Film Festival (full interview below), he confirmed several projects. One of those projects is Blumhouse and Universal’s reboot of The Thing. As previously reported, the new film as well as Carpenter’s 1982 movie, is inspired by acclaimed science fiction author John W. Campbell’s Who Goes There?, about a team of scientists in Antarctica who discover and are terrorized by a monstrous, shape-shifting alien. The new film will also draw from Frozen Hell, a recently unearthed novella that serves as an abridged version of Campbell’s original story. In all, there are already three film versions of the same story, The Thing from Another World (1951), Carpenter’s 1982 film The Thing, and 2011’s The Thing from director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. Blumhouse and Universal’s reboot will be number four. As always, Blumhouse aims to keep genre fans on the edge of their seats. The horror powerhouse has a horde of new series soon to be unleashed and we’re going to make sure you don’t miss a moment of the action. Here’s what you need to know: First off, there’s “Welcome to Blumhouse,” a collection of the first four of eight terrifying tales, that includes Black Box and The Lie, which premieres on Amazon Prime on October 6th. Nocturne and Evil Eye arrive on October 13th. Blumhouse has been busy! Amazon announced Thursday that they release “Welcome to the Blumhouse,” a collection of eight (yes, eight) horror films all produced by the genre powerhouse along with Amazon Studios. The first batch of four films is set to premiere this October followed by the other four debuting in 2021. The poster for the first collection looks like a dollhouse filled with people and features the name of the first four films, Nocturne, Black Box, Evil Eye, and The Lie. Elisabeth Moss Teams Up With Blumhouse For ‘Mrs. March’ Adaptation

Elisabeth Moss is a busy woman with multiple projects, including the most recently announced movie Mrs. March who her Love and Squalor Pictures production company is teaming up with Blumhouse for. The feature film, in which Moss will play the titular character, is based on Virginia Feito’s psychological thriller by the same name, is the story of a polished Upper East Side housewife who unravels when she begins to suspect the detestable protagonist of her husband’s latest bestselling novel is based on her. “Into The Dark: Good Boy” Bares Its Teeth This June

The next installment of Hulu’s holiday horror-themed series “Into the Dark” celebrates Pet Appreciation week. They say that dogs are a man’s (and woman’s) best friend, but what happens when a good dog does bad things? “Into the Dark: Good Boy” examines that. Leigh Whannell’s ‘Upgrade’ Is Getting A Series Adaptation

Blumhouse Television and UCP, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios, are teaming up for the series adaption of Leigh Whannell’s 2018 sci-fi, thriller Upgrade, which Whannell co-created and will direct, as well as executive produce along with showrunner Tim Walsh (Treadstone, Chicago P.D., Shooter). The series picks up a few years after the events of the film and broadens the universe with an evolved version of STEM and a new host in a world in which the government repurposes STEM to help curb criminal activity. A writer’s room has begun work on the series’ first season. Krystal Ziv Houghton and James Roland, who ran the second season of The Purge, have joined Whannell and Walsh.
