Blumhouse Conjures A Remake Of ‘The Craft’

The trend of remakes and reboots shows no signs of slowing, in fact, today, we have news about another classic being revamped, The Craft. That’s right, The Craft. Three years ago there was a remake in the works from director Leigh Janiak (Honeymoon) who has since stepped away. Now, Blumhouse has found a new director, Zoe-Lister Jones (“Life in Pieces”). There was a script by Janiak and Phil Graziadei that picked up 20 years after the original movie with a new group of witches, but there is no word if the script will be used or if a new one will be written. Doug Wick, who produced the original, will be returning to produce along with Jason Blum. Andrew Fleming directed the original film that centered on a new girl (Robin Tunney) in town who joins a group of young witches played by Fairuza Blak, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True.

Blumhouse Reportedly Finds A Writer For The ‘Halloween’ Sequel

After the success of David Gordan Green’s 2018 smash hit Halloween, it’s no surprise that is a sequel is already in the works. In fact, it seems Blumhouse has already found the sequels’ writer. Collider reports that Scott Teems is currently in talks to write the script. This isn’t the first time Teems has worked with Blumhouse, he also penned the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter. As for the 2018 film’s cast, the site notes that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak are likely to return. It’s unknown at this time if David Gordan Green will be involved. Blumhouse could put a rush on the sequel aiming to release it this October, but odds are it won’t be out until next year.

Universal’s ‘The Invisible Man’ Finds Its Director

After a stall in Universal’s Dark Universe following The Mummy, the next film is finally on the way. Variety is reporting that Upgrade director Leigh Whannell has signed on to direct the reboot of The Invisible Man and is reuniting with Jason Blum who is producing the film. Whannell, who will also co-produce The Invisible Man, teamed up with Blumhouse on Insidious: The Last Key and Upgrade. Universal’s President of Production Peter Cramer has stated that the studio is excited to take a more individualized approach to each movie from “creative directors with distinctive visions.” Johnny Depp was previously set to star but has since stepped away. Hulu’s horror series “Into the Dark” has released three fantastic episode so far. The first details have just arrived for the fourth episode “New Year, New You“. Blumhouse Teaming Up With Sony For Horror Film Adaptation Of ‘Fantasy Island’

Blumhouse and Sony Pictures are teaming up for a film adaptation of ABC’s long-running series Fantasy Island. According to Deadline this the film will be a bit different from the 80s series, it will be horror themed with a killer stalking the guests of the island. Truth or Dare’s Jeff Wadlow will be directing from the script that he co-wrote with Truth or Dare co-scribes Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. Lucy Hale (Truth or Dare) stars alongside Michael Pena (End of Watch), and Crazy Rich Asians’ Jimmy O. Yang. Fantasy Island is set to open in theaters on February 28, 2020.

Blumhouse And Amazon Teaming Up For Eight Exclusive Films

Blumhouse has continued to impress with their genre projects including their one episode a month holiday horror-themed anthology series “Into the Dark“. We’ve learned that the genre powerhouse is now gearing up to do something similar with Amazon Prime. Deadline is reporting that Amazon Studios has closed an exclusive production deal with Blumhouse Television for a series of eight features films that will be somehow connected. We are delighted Amazon is entrusting Blumhouse to deliver its signature thrills and chills to its global audience through this deal,” said Jason Blum. “This is a great opportunity for Blumhouse Television to empower underrepresented filmmakers offering a fresh take on the dark genres loved by fans the world over.” We will let you know when we learn more. This November Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei‘s tech-driven thriller CAM is set to premiere on Netflix and in select Alamo Drafthouse theaters. From the Oscar-winning producers of Get Out comes the film set in the world of webcam porn. It follows Alice (Brewer), an ambitious camgirl, who wakes up one day to discover she’s been replaced on her show with an exact replica of herself. As this copy begins to push the boundaries of Alice’s internet identity, the control that Alice has over her life, and the men in it, vanishes.
