Slappy’s Back Again In The AR Game ‘Slappy’s Haunted Christmas’

Krikey has launched its second Augmented Reality mobile game of their three-part “Goosebumps 2” Slappy series; the first one was released in October. This time Slappy the ventriloquist dummy is back in a Christmas themed multiplayer AR game, “Slappy’s Haunted Christmas”. Players must open Christmas presents with a tap of the screen in order to find the Goosebumps manuscript before Slappy does. The presents are not as pleasant as they may seem as some contain jump scares! Each level is unique and the Goosebumps manuscript and jump scares are never in the same spot twice ensuring a unique play through each time. Krikey is available on the App Store and Google Play for free.

When Welsh Mari Lwyd Visits

In South Wales, not just Santa is expected to stop by your home for the holidays, keep an ear out; here comes the Mari Lwyd (Gray Mare)! Mari Lwyd is a Hobby Horse, those toy horses that was basically a stick with a stuff horse head on one end, the Welsh kept the stick but have a horse skull on the end of it! Just to add to it, a person carries the stick with the skull on it while draped in a white cloth most commonly giving the appearance that the Mari Lwyd is a tall cloaked figure with a horse skill sticking out from the hood. Depictions of “hooded animals” are quite common in the British Isles thanks to its pre-Christian Pagan beliefs which causes confusion when trying to track down the origin of this tradition since the first recorded account of this tradition appears in the 1800’s and scholars and folklore experts can’t seem to agree if

Christmas Zombies With Candy In ‘Dying Light’

Christmas time is here and gifts are coming from the folks at Techland in the form of Elf-dressed Zombies in ‘Dying Light’ the first-person survival horror game where players can craft weapons and use parkour skills to survive a zombie outbreak in a quarantined city. As of the 22nd of December, a community challenge called ‘Sharing is Caring’ where players have to treat the festive-looking zombies “naughty” enough to get 1 of 8 presents before the challenge ends on New Years Day. Basically what you have to do is play ‘Dying Light’ go to either Old Town or the Slums and start your journey and locate the festive zombies in green shirts and red and white striped pants, kill them and loot their bodies of Christmas candy! The best tactic I use to get close enough to these guys is to disguise myself (hence the yellow screen on the pic) so you’re invisible to the zombies and you just sneak

Krampus: The Christmas Demon

It’s been in vogue the past couple of years to address Santa’s counterpart, Krampus. Cartoon appearances, a few movies (one of which was a major motion picture), t-shirts and sweaters, various other media are all filling up with this Christmas Demon. But, where did he come from? Why did he disappear? And why is he back? So, sit back, get cozy on a chair in your new Christmas pajamas, and let’s explore the legend of this anamorphic demon. The origin time period of Krampus is unknown. Like St. Nicholas, he pre-dates Christianity and has been found in Alpine regions, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, he has stretched all through Europe and around the world. It seems, however, that his origins are in Norse folklore. The daughter of Loki (yup, Thor’s brother) is named Hel and oversees the land of the dead. Legend is it that she bore a son to an unknown father who she named Krampus

Fa-la-la-la-la….La-la-la-Lawson….The Christmas Family Murders

1929 was a rough year. The stock markets crashed and it was the genesis of the dreaded dirty thirties. Many people had their lives ripped apart, but on Christmas Day, the Lawson family had their lives ripped away…by their own father. Charlie Lawson (age 43) his wife, Fanny (age 37) and their seven children, Marie (age 17), Arthur (age 16), Carrie (age 12), Maybell (age 7) James (age 4) Raymond, (age 2) and Mary Lou (age 4 months) had a large family on a failing tobacco farm in North Carolina. A few days before Christmas, Charley took his family to town and and used what little funds they had to buy new clothes and get a, now famous, family portrait. This action has led many to believe that his actions were pre-meditated as opposed to a spur of the moment psychotic break. First on the familial hit list were daughters Carrie and Maybell. They were murdered with a shot gun

Merry Christmas…Run and Hide! The Pardo Murders

I have never been a huge fan of Christmas. Obviously Halloween is the better holiday — there could be a whole article on the reasons why, but even without the comparison I have a tough time with this holiday. (It doesn’t help that the two most embarrassing moments of my life have happened due to this holiday) but I also don’t get all giddy about lights, trees, traditions, or parties. It’s not Christmas parties in general that I am opposed to, but simply the quantity of events that are squeezed into this month like fat circus clowns in a small car. That being said, there has never been a party that I have attended that has come close to the horrors of the annual Christmas Eve party of the Pardo family in 2008. Bruce and Sylvia Pardo were married in January of 2006. Their marriage started off rocky as it was discovered that Bruce was hiding a child from a
