This July, AMC Network is releasing a ton of new series, films, specials, and more, and we’ve got the highlights from AMC+, Acorn TV, ALLBLK, IFC Films Unlimited, Shudder, and Sundance Now, to make sure you stay entertained! On ACORN TV: Jack Irish (Acorn TV Exclusive) Final Season Premieres Monday, July 12 Emmy® Award-winner Guy Pearce (Mare of Easttown) reprises his iconic role as Jack Irish, a former criminal lawyer, part-time debt collector, and private investigator with a penchant for getting wrapped up in things he shouldn’t. Movie Review: Sputnik (2020)

Commander Konstantin Veshnyakov (Pyotr Fyodorov) is doin’ the Major Tom bag back round ‘83. Well on the way back home, Veshnyakov has the unpleasant discovery that they are not alone in the capsule. One crash landing, an amazingly worse for wear co-pilot, and incarceration in a secret facility later we learn that our hero is a host to a parasitic alien that gives him remarkable regenerative abilities… but, like he has to have a giant space creature inside of him, just a-ridin’ around… Enter: Tatyana Klimova (Oksana Akinshina), a hot shot psychiatric doctor with unconventional methods of treating patients, who’s brought to the facility by hard-ass Colonel Semiradov (Fedor Bondarchuk) to look after our deadly duo. The problem is, the longer Klimova is at the secret base… and I mean, she couldn’t leave even if she wanted to… the more she learns that there are many more secrets involved than just an alien-infested spaceman… and living through the project’s conclusion

Jennifer Kent’s ‘The Nightingale’ Landing On Digital

From Jennifer Kent, the director of The Babadook, comes The Nightingale, a period thriller about a woman’s mission of revenge. Aisling Franciosi, Baykali Ganambarr, Sam Claflin, and Damon Herriman star in this controversial film that had audiences fleeing theaters due to its graphic violence. Set in the 18th century, this historical horror follows the story of 21-year-old Irish convict Clare (Aisling Franciosi) as she sets out to avenge her family. Kristina Ceyton, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky produced. The Nightingale lands on Digital November 1, 2019, from IFC Films.

‘The Painted Bird’ Acquired By IFC Films

IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring U.S. rights to The Painted Bird directed, written, and produced by Václav Marhoul (Tobruk, Smart Philip). Based on the acclaimed novel by Jerzy Kosinski, the movie was a singular achievement by Marhoul, almost 11 years in the making from the decision to acquire the rights, to the writing of the screenplay, to the casting and production lock. It is also notably, the first-ever film made in the invented Interslavic language. The Film stars Petr Kotlár, Udo Kier (Blade) Lech Dyblik, Jitka Čvančarová, Stellan Skarsgard (Dancer in the Dark) Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs) ), Julian Sands (A Room with A View), Aleksey Kravchenko (Come and See), and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile). Movie Review: Trespassers (2019)

Here they are cats n’ creeps; Sarah (Angela Trimbur) and Joseph (Zach Avery) the newest couple engaged in that hoary ol’ fright flick trope; the young married folks suffering a rough patch that make the baffling decision to hole up in some remote location to fix their issues (as if being sandwiched together somewhere unable to get away from one another won’t just exacerbate things…) Anyhow, the remote location in question is a desert domicile situated in the Mojave…a house the couple is surprised to find empty upon their arrival as they had agreed to meet the owners upon check-in, but since this is a horror picture, they got their asses all murdered up courtesy a trio of masked maniacs (we’ll get back to them). The supernatural thriller Our House opens in theaters this July from IFC Films. From director Anthony Scott Burns comes the story of Ethan (Thomas Mann), who is suffering from enormous guilt after his parents are killed in a car accident. After he quits a promising future at MIT he begins working on a revolutionary experiment in hopes that it will create a better future for him and his sister, only to discover that the machine has unleashed something in his home. Trailer for ‘The Cured’ Seems Familiar…

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead! I’m a fan of zombies, I’m a fan of movies, so, therefore, I’m a fan of (a good) zombie movie. When I heard about a new movie starring Ellen Page coming out called The Cured about zombies that were cured and trying to re-enter society, I thought, “Oh they made In the Flesh into a movie?” but after seeing the trailer and reading what critics are saying, I’ll be honest I was shocked. Many are hailing the upcoming Irish film as “original” and “unique” but what I saw is a copy of an original. Over time many zombie films have had little moments where zombies act human again or show signs that they remember a small part of themselves, granted usually for dramatic effect before they are killed right before the eyes of a past loved one.
