Today IFC Midnight announced that it has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Emma Tammi‘s haunting western The Wind. Produced by Soapbox Films and Dive/Conquer, The Wind made its World Premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival to an excited crowd and will screen at Fantastic Fest this weekend. “Director Emma Tammi and writer Teresa Sutherland have embarked on a nightmarish yet empathetic exploration of domestic solitude, skillfully conjuring — in bone-chilling visual and sonic strokes — an indescribable specter that seems to emanate from the abyss of the night itself. Hailed by critics as a femme-centric western and supernatural horror.” Caitlin Gerard (Insidious: The Last Key) stars alongside, Julia Goldani Telles, Ashley Zukerman, Dylan McTee, and Miles Anderson. The Wind also features an array of talented female creatives at the helm and in front of the camera, showcasing work from production designers Hillary and Courtney Andujar, set decorator Elsbeth Mumm along with film editor Alexandra Amick. A new trailer is here for Sony Pictures’ frightening flick Slender Man. The new trailer is the second to be released and reveals some seriously creepy footage. Directed by Sylvian White, Slender Man centers on the tall, featureless figure born from a Something Awful story contest entry by Victor Surge. After finding its way to Creepypasta the entity took on a life of its own. Set in a small town in Massachusetts, the film centers on four high school girls who perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of Slender Man. When one of the girls goes mysteriously missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, HIS latest victim.” The Conjuring and Wish Upon‘s Joey King and Julia Goldani Telles star along with Annalise Basso (Captain Fantastic), Jaz Sinclair (When The Bough Breaks), and Alex Fitzalan. Slender Man will open in theaters on August 10, 2018, and will be released internationally on August 24th.

In what seems to be a dicey move Sony Pictures has changed the release date of Slender Man putting it directly in the path of New Line’s The Meg, one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year. Sony’s relationship with Slender Man has been strained from the get-go. Back in May, the producers of the film were shopping it around to other studios and streaming services after producers and Sony had disagreements about the studio’s release strategy, Bloody Disgusting reports. Reportedly, the date was changed in hopes of snagging teen moviegoers while they are still on summer break.
