2020 has been a busy year of gaming and horror-themed games certainly were not in short supply! Going back through the games that were reviewed this year, I picked out games that stayed true to the genre of horror as well as a couple of games balanced on being considered horror or not but were still great games. A Noob Plays A Souls(Like) Game: Review Of ‘Mortal Shell’

As you can guess by the title, I’ve never played a “souls” game before. I never experienced the soul-crushing repetitive nature of playing, dying, and repeating for hours at a time that makes one question why they put themselves through such mental torture…but I want to, and Cold Symmetry and Playstack were more than happy to test my resolve with their soulslike game Mortal Shell. Mortal Shell takes players to a dark world full of creepy looking enemies, creatures, and mystery as they play as a being that takes over the remains of four dead warriors and fights their way through enemies in order to attain glands from certain enemies to appease the mysterious monstrous prisoner. Now onto the game itself! Leading up to getting the review copy of Mortal Shell I watched and studied gameplay videos of Dark Souls in which this game is said to be like. ‘Mortal Shell’ Gets Release Date And New Trailer!

With the success of the open beta, where players have died 350 million times, Cold Symmetry and Playstack are happy to announce that in roughly two weeks, Mortal Shell will be released! Along with the announcement comes a new trailer that features of all things…a Medieval Bazooka! Mortal Shell is a third-person “Souls-like” game where players are resurrected from the dead to fight dangerous foes and collect their glands to appease the Dark Father but the fights are challenging where players can easily die and lose glands but have to return to where they died to reclaim them…or die trying…multiple times. Mortal Shell will be coming to Epic Game Store, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One August 18th, 2020, the game will be coming to Steam in 2021.

Originally Cold Symmetry and Playstack made the Beta for their upcoming souls-like game Mortal Shell closed and only those who registered can play it. But due to overwhelming demand, they decided to make the Beta public! Players can head over to Epic Game Store right now and download the Beta and try to hone their skills and survive the outskirts of Fallgrim and the Abandoned Chamber before Mortal Shell’s official release later this season on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. New ‘Mortal Shell’ Trailer And Release Information

Mortal Shell had a busy weekend as more information and content was released at IGN, PCGaming Show, and Fextralife. To cap off the busy weekend, Cold Symmetry released a new trailer that focuses on one of the four playable shells players will find in the game, Tiel, an angry complex character with agility and poison skills. It’s been announced that Mortal Shell will be an Epic Games Store exclusive for a limited time and can be preordered now for PC as a closed BETA will be available July 3rd, players can register for the BETA at the Mortal Shell Discord. The game will be shipped to STEAM in Q3 of 2021. Mortal Shell will launch fully on Epic Games along with PlayStation 4, and Xbox One Q3 of 2020 as planned.

New ‘Mortal Shell’ Footage Looks Promising

Cold Symmetry and Playstack have debuted the latest trailer for their upcoming souls-like game Mortal Shell that shows what players more of the kinds of enemies they will encounter as well as some of the kind of ass-kicking they will also be able to do as well! Along with the release of the new trailer, Cold Symmetry’s segment from the IGN Summer of Gaming Event from Wednesday is up with gameplay footage from Mortal Shell and more explanation of the game’s mechanics from the Devs themselves. Mortal Shell will take players to a twisted world where they will play as a spirit summoned by the “Dark Father” who needs them to go forth and smite his enemies and followers and harvest their sacred glands but is the Dark Father hiding something from our hero? Mortal Shell will be coming Q3 of 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A closed beta of the game is set for July 3rd

‘Mortal Shell’ Gameplay Footage Coming

Souls fans will be happy to hear that the first set of gameplay footage for Cold Symmetry and Playstack’s souls-like game Mortal Shell will be on its way very soon as it will make its presence felt at the upcoming gaming festivals! With major public events canceled for the year due to COVID-19, a new string of events dubbed “2020 Summer of Digital Showcases” as many gaming news sites and game companies will be holding their own digital expos showcasing their upcoming games. The first official gameplay footage for Mortal Shell will make its world debut at IGN Summer of Gaming on June 5th. With over 2 million views of its first trailer and overwhelming support on its Discord channel, Mortal Shell is already racking up a large fanbase of players eager to dive into the torturous experience that Souls fans love. New Souls-Like Game ‘Mortal Shell’ Coming

The 15-man team made up of AAA gaming veterans make up Cold Symmetry, and to make their mark on the gaming world they wasted no time and went right for the throat with their upcoming Souls-like flagship game, Mortal Shell. Souls games are a genre of games that are inspired by or a lot like the games in the “Dark Souls” game series where players earn points (souls) by killing enemies and can lose all of them if defeated in which these games are known to being very taxing. Souls games are also known for the unique combat system where dodging, and parrying attacks are just as important, if not more important, than attacks. Players take on the role of an empty vessel who is summoned by the “Dark Father” to retrieve glands from your fallen foes.
