Guillermo Del Torro Takes Us To ‘Nightmare Alley’ This December

Guillermo del Toro’s new film Nightmare Alley, rated “R” for “Strong/bloody violence, some sexual content, nudity, and language.” debuts this December. The all-star cast includes Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Richard Jenkins, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn. In the film, an adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name, “An ambitious young carny (Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.” This is not the first time the story has made it to the big screen, it was first made into a film back in 1947 by director Edmund Goulding and starred Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell. Nightmare Alley was written by Guillermo del Toro and Kim Morgan and will open in theaters on December 17, 2021.

Del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’ Conjures A Release Date And First Images

The oh so brilliant filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is hard at work on his latest film, Nightmare Alley which has just been given a release date by Searchlight Pictures. The all-star cast includes Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Rooney Mara, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn. The film, already being eyed for the 2021 Oscars, centers on “An ambitious young carny (Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.” Nightmare Alley is an adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel, which spawned a feature film the following year. Willem Defoe Heads To Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’

The cast is filling out for Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of Nightmare Alley. The latest to join the cast is the brilliant actor and Oscar nominee Willem Defoe who will play the head barker at a traveling carnival, Variety reports. Defoe joins Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, and Rooney Mara. Set in a world of carnival hustlers and con men, the film tells the story of a mentalist (Cooper) who teams with a psychologist in order to swindle the rich. Things go south for the man when he’s out-hustled by a woman. The film is the second adaptation of William Lindsey Gresham’s novel of the same name. The first movie was made in 1947 and starred Tyrone Power. Defoe has been in a long line of fantastic films including The Lighthouse, Aquaman, Death Note, John Wick, The Boondock Saints, and more than 130 films and shows. Hereditary Star Joins Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’

Hereditary star Toni Collette has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro‘s film adaptation of William Lindsay’s 1946 noir novel Nightmare Alley. Collette will star alongside Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, and Rooney Mara in the film where she will play a mentalist named Zeena who serves as a mentor to the protagonist. Set in a world of carnival hustlers and con men, the film tells the story of a mentalist (Cooper) who teams with a psychologist in order to swindle the rich. Things go south for the man when he’s out-hustled by a woman. Del Toro is directing from the script he co-wrote with Kim Morgan. Filming set to begin on Nightmare Alley in Toronto in 2020.

Bradley Cooper In Talks To Star In Guillermo Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley

A Star is Born actor-director Bradley Cooper is currently in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming psychological thriller Nightmare Alley. Del Toro co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan and will be in the director’s chair for the adaptation of Will Lindsey Gresham’s novel by the same name. Fox made their own adaptation of the tale for a 1947 film. In the 1947 version, An ambitious young con-man teams up with a female psychiatrist who is more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy their success with their mentalist act, but it’s not long before she turns the tables on him. The role Cooper is in talks to play was originally offered to Leonardo DiCaprio, but negotiations failed for unknown reasons. Nightmare Alley is set to begin filming sometime this Fall.
