Filming has now begun on director David Lee Fisher’s remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film Nosferatu. The role of the iconic vampire, Count Orlok has been cast. Amazing actor Doug Jones will play the role. Jones As Count Orlok Jones’ most recent role was that of the creature in Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, but you might also recognize Jones from Hellboy as Abe Sapien or in Pan’s Labrinth as the “Pale Man”. The original, considered the first true vampire film ever made, is an unauthorized adaption of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. Names were changed in the film due to the studio’s inability to obtain the rights. It follows a young woman’s supernatural quest to not only save her lover’s soul but to save the entire world from the “shadow of infernal darkness.” The new “remix” of Nosferatu: The Immortal Vampire will be created with a mixture of new footage and colorized digitally recreated backgrounds from the original

Following the success of his 2015 hit The Witch, director Robert Eggers is preparing to begin production on his new remake of the 1922 vampire classic Nosferatu. Variety is reporting that Anya Taylor-Joy, who played the lead role in The Witch and co-starred in Split, is in negotiations to star in the remake that is both written and directed by Eggers. The original film, an unofficial adaption of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, centered on vampire Count Orick or Transylvania who sets out buy a house in Germany. and becomes obsessed with the real estate agent’s wife.

We reported back in February that director Robert Eggers had plans to remake F.W. Murnau’s 1922 vampire film ‘Nosferatu’. Since then its been radio silence. Making us wonder if Eggers still has plans to remake the classic that is the unofficial adaption of ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’. It seems that he does. During a recent conversation with Indiewire, Eggers confirmed that the project is still happening [It’s shocking] to me. It feels ugly and blasphemous and egomaniacal and disgusting for a filmmaker in my place to do Nosferatu next,” Eggers admitted. “I was really planning on waiting a while, but that’s how fate shook out.” He continued. “Nosferatu has a very close, magical connection for me. Though if I were to make the movie 17-year-old Rob was going to make of Nosferatu it would have been something between like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sin City, whereas this is going to be the same approach as The Witch, where 1830s Biedermeier

Filming is now underway for David Lee Fisher’s remake of F. W. Murnau’s classic 1922 black and white vampire film Nosferatu. Brilliant actor Doug Jones will be playing the titular character of Graf Orlok, originally played by Max Schreck. Jones has starred in many films, including Crimson Peak, Hellboy, Pan’s Labrinth and the upcoming supernatural film The Bye Bye Man. He also played “The Master” on the popular series The Strain. Emrhys Cooper, Sarah Carter, Joely Fisher and Jake Turner co-star along side Jones in Nosferatu. According to Variety, Fisher will be using a “…a mixture of live-action combined with colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film.” This should give the remake a similar feel as the original film. Robert Eggers, writer and director of the acclaimed film The Witch, is set to make a new film based on the 1922 silent masterpiece Nosferatu. The first vampire to ever be depicted on film will return to the silver screen via Eggers’ new version of the black and white classic. Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen will serve as producers according to Deadline. There has been no release date announced. Eggers has another project to complete ahead of Nosferatu, a miniseries recounting the rise and fall of Russia’s mystic Rasputin. Eggers is also slatted to write and direct an upcoming medieval film titled The Knight, which Hoy and Knudsen are also producing.

F.W. Murnau’s 1922’s vampire film ‘Nosferatu’ has long been considered a true classic. According to Variety, Studio 8 has acquired the rights to the film with the intent of remaking it. Robert Eggers, who wrote the script for the 2015 film ‘The Witch’, will pen the new version of ‘Nosferatu’. ‘Nosferatu’ follows Count Orlok, a vampire, who fains interest in a new residence with his heart set on the agent’s wife.
