‘The Black Phone’ Hit With A Minor Delay

The filmmaking duo of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who brought us Sinister and Doctor Strange, is back with The Black Phone, the Blumhouse adaptation of Joe Hill’s short story. Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait a bit longer to see it. Originally set to open in theaters this January, the movie now has a new February release date. In the film, “Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. Train To Busan’s Timo Tjahjanto Teams Up With ‘Sinister’ Duo For New Horror

Timo Tjahjanto, the filmmaker behind Netflix’s The Night Comes for Us, as well as May the Devil Take You, Headshot and the upcoming Train to Busan remake, announced on social media last night that he is working on a new film with director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill, the team behind Sinister and Doctor Strange. Derrickson shared Tjahjanto’s tweet featuring an image of the mysterious new script, but much of the title was hidden, revealing “The” an “H” and an “R”. It also says, “The year is…” with a snake blocking the exact year. The script’s cover page also states a brief teaser to its plot, “Society is screwed. Crime and violence have risen steadily in all remaining regions of planet Earth.” We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

IT: Chapter 2 actor James Ransone has been cast in Scott Derrickson‘s upcoming horror film The Black Phone, from Universal and Blumhouse. Ransone will star alongside his fellow Sinister franchise alum Ethan Hawke in the film whose plot and details are still being kept secret. Derrickson and frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill (Bermuda, Doctor Strange, Sinister) adapted the script based on Joe Hill’s short story. In Hill’s tale, first published in his short story collection 20th Century Ghosts, young John Finney has been kidnapped and locked in a basement, a place stained with the blood of half a dozen murdered children. Scott Derrickson, the writer-director behind Sinister and Doctor Strange, has a new film on the way, The Black Phone, but he’s already moved on to his next project, executive producing the upcoming series “Grace” for Paramount Television under his Crooked Highway banner. Written by Joseph Sousa, “Grace” centers on a man on death row for killing his wife who is set free when she resurfaces. But she may not really be who she says she is,” according to Variety. C. ‘IT’ Director Signs On For Hulu’s Adaption Of Joe Hill’s ‘Lock & Key’

Back in April Hulu announced that they had an adaption of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s IDW comic, Lock & Key, in the works. Originally, Scott Derrickson (Sinister) was attached to direct the pilot for the one-hour series. Now, Deadline is reporting Derrickson has stepped away due to a scheduling conflict with his other series, Snowpiercer. Andy Muschietti will be taking Derrickson’s seat in the directors chair. Muschietti must really be a fan of the King family, after adapting Stephen King’s IT and now adapting King’s son’s (Joe Hill) comic. The series centers around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities.
