Movie Review: Downrange (2018)

A group of young friends are travelling down a deserted road when they suffer a tire blow out. Things play out mundane A.F. until suddenly members of our gregarious gang start ending up well ventilated courtesy of bullets exploding through their skulls via a hidden sniper. Now the day has gone from sunny to shitty, will any of the friends survive the afternoon, and just who the hell is shooting at them and why? Directed by Ryûhei Kitamura (Godzilla: Final Wars, Versus), Downrange is a tight, simply told piece of suspense cinema that not only looks great, but backs plenty of grizzly gore (and I do mean plenty) into it’s ninety minute run time. There’s also a really cool piece of synth score that kicks in around thirty five minute mark that would be right at home in any random ’80’s slasher flick. On the flip side, though everyone does a great job in their respective roles, I didn’t know

Warning: lots and lots of Spoilers ahead! Don’t want the story spoiled? Scroll down to the final picture. The story revolves around a group of teens who live in a home for children. Bastian (Fergus Riordan) who tried committing suicide as a result of blaming himself for his little sister’s death, Liam (McKell David) a brash individual who always brags about how rich his father is all the while being neglectful to his girlfriend

Before Playboy, Hugh Hefner’s First Magazine Was Horror

Hugh Hefner’s passing to the big Bunny Ranch in the sky is a tragedy that reverberates across pop culture. While Old Hugh was of course most famous for the founding of Playboy Magazine, the only thing Hef loved more than sailor caps and silk pajamas (and ladies) was his love of classic horror movies. Well being Hefner was 91 when he died, he was around when they were just called horror movies. “I grew up loving the classic horror movies of the 1930s. I created a club & fanzine in my teens titled Shudder,” Hefner tweeted back in 2010. He added in a subsequent tweet, shortly thereafter, “I created a Shudder Club & Shudder Magazine Hefner even directed his own film as a teenager, “Return From The Dead”, where he played a mad scientist.
