Black Spot Books presents its inaugural Poetry Showcase, UNDER HER SKIN [Black Spot Books, April 5, 2022], featuring the best in never-before-published dark verse and lyrical prose from the voices of Women in Horror. The inaugural collection features work from Bram-Stoker Award® winning and nominated authors, as well as dozens of poems from women (cis and trans) and non-binary femmes in horror. Edited by Lindy Ryan and Toni Miller, UNDER HER SKIN celebrates women in horror from cover to cover. In addition to poems contributed by seventy poets, the collection also features a foreword penned by Science Fiction Poetry Association (SFPA) Grand Master and recipient of the Horror Writers Association (HWA) Lifetime Achievement Award, Linda D. Cannes Virtual market gets a new werewolf movie. Canadian Amelia Moses directs the bloody horror movie “Bloodthirsty” and it is promisig to be a hit. Following the likes of “Ginger Snap. Lauren Beatty stars as a young singer who can’s seen to shake dreams of being a wolf. As her music career blossoms, the dreams become more real. “We have a hybrid, a mix of a human and a wolf. It’s a bit more grotesque, a bit weirder, and we still get the emotion of the main character, even when she’s a werewolf,” Moses told THR of her work on the wolf transformation with Dave Trainor, a veteran make-up and prosthetics maker on TV series like “Fargo” and “Wynonna Earp”. I got sent the screener for The Bellwether and my heart sank. Reading the description I could see this was going to be some real soul searching, feminist-based examination of the dire effects tragedy can have on a woman…and when faced with serious, gravitas-heavy material like this my review style is completely thrown for a loop. You lot know I’m world famous for my award losing hodgepodge of smart assery, pop culture deep dives, and horror host punnery, and this material definitely won’t bring the grins…so with that disclaimer I’ll do my best to entertain here boils n’ ghouls… Bookstore owner Joanne (Alex Reid) is having one of those days. She awakes to find herself within a Gothic chapel fitted with a TV screen, through which The Conspiracy conveys that they have photographic evidence of every moment of her life…including that pesky baby she aborted a few years previous, and intends to challenge her life’s path. February is all about love, but it’s not just for Valentines’. February is Women in Horror month, an entire month dedicated to us showing extra love to those women who make the horror genre what it is. Mass Grave Pictures and CongestedCat Productions have teamed up to celebrate women in a big way, with The Big, Bloody Apple: Women in Horror Month Event celebrating a ‘Decade of Blood’ for women in horror in NYC! The event is being held at Stone Creek Bar and Lounge (140 East 27 th Street, NYC) on February 21st and will feature films by Amanda Goodman, Angie Hansen, Nicole Solomon, Kristina Leath-Marlin, Victoria Diana, and Amanda Sabater. The evening festivities will also include “Women In Horror” trivia from Nicole Solomon of 4MileCircus and a presentation by Heather Buckley (Kino Lorber, Miskatonic University). Giant Pictures, the digital film distribution division of Giant Interactive, has acquired North American digital rights for The Bellwether, writer-director Christopher Morrison‘s thriller shot in an ancient church in Brussels, Belgium. The Bellwether, a deeply character-driven genre piece, the horror thriller addresses women’s issues, features a captivating performance by Alex Reid ( The Descent, BBC’s Misfits). In the film, “to the outside world Joanne (Reid) is just a bookstore owner, but The Conspiracy knows different. She is dangerous. I recently sat down for an interview with writer-director-Scream Queen Deborah Voorhees, who starred in Friday the 13th: New Beginning, to talk about her upcoming horror film 13 Fanboy, a film about a killer stalking actresses from the Friday the 13th franchise. I learned during our conversation that the film was inspired by true events which makes the movie more frightening in my book. The cast features some of the biggest names from the franchise, including 3 actors who have played Jason Voorhees. Kane Hodder (Jason: Friday the 13th VII and VIII, Jason Goes to Hell), C.J. Horror Fuel: “Where did you find the inspiration for your film The Ice Cream Truck?” Megan Freels Johnston: “I lived in a neighborhood that happens to have a lot of ice cream trucks and I had just moved there. What struck me about those ice cream trucks was that they were actually selling the whole ice cream cones and banana splits. When I grew up they just sold wrapped up ice cream bars. It seemed so old-fashioned to me. I had just had my second child and I was home with the baby. I kept hearing the trucks go by with the music. It occurred to me

Ghost Walk Studios and 333 Productions have just announced that award-winning filmmaker Staci Layne Wilson (Cabare of the Dead, Psycho Therapy) is attached to direct the upcoming horror film, Dead Slate. In the film, viewers are taken behind the scenes of a slasher film in production as stereotypical cast members are stalked by a psychopath paying homage to classic murder scenes from some of our favorite horror films. Max Wasa (Death House) will star as Sammie Borden, the film’s director of the movie-within-a-movie, and Brooke Lewis (iMurders) will portray Captain Lisa Jones. John Dugan (1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) and Anna Margaret (Rock Paper Dead) round out the leads. Other cast includes Shanda Renee (Raising Helen), Raelynn Harper (Sorry Not Sorry Demi Lovato music video), and Luke Gregory Crosby (Maximum Ride). Amaris Davidson, former NBA dancer turned actress, sat down with me to talk about her roles in films like Insidious 3, as Sarah in the soon to be released film Killer Kate! and her character Coach Fazholtz on the new supernatural series “Light As A Feather” which has just arrived on Hulu. Horror Fuel: “What was it like on the set of Insidious 3?” Amaris Davidson: “Oh, man. It was in a dilapidated hospital. It was a real hospital that they had turned into a movie set, exclusively for horror movies. Walking through the hall to get to where we were filming was interesting itself. It would give you a weird feeling. I don’t care for hospitals already, so it was really creepy. I play a nurse in Insidious 3, an ER nurse. There was a lot of blood in the prosthetics which were really beautifully done. They fire off the smoke machine and all you see is smoke coming

Only days before Halloween‘s arrival in theaters producer Jason Blum‘s name is making headlines and not in a good way. During an interview with Matt Patches of Polygon asked the head of Blumhouse about one flaw in the genre powerhouse’s eleven years, why Blumhouse has never released a film with a female director. Jason Blum’s response has left some critics and fans in shock and a bit ticked off. We’re always trying to do that. We’re not trying to do it because of recent events. There are not a lot of female directors period and even less who are inclined to do horror. I’m a massive admirer of Jennifer Kent [director of The Babadook]. I’ve offered her every movie we’ve had available.
