Game Review: ‘The Inner Friend’

The awesome folks over at Playmind gave me the opportunity to experience their award-winning atmospheric psychological thriller The Inner Friend. In this game, players will be taking on the role of an unnamed character (that resembles a child) that journey through the subconscious world of the Shadow, the literal inner-child of the player’s character picking up the pieces of the past and facing past trauma. Since there’s nothing earth-shattering negative about The Inner Friend, let’s get some of the negative points that out of the way first. The game’s length is short, I was able to beat it in about 2 hours or so but I enjoyed every second of it. The controls for the game are a bit aggravating as directing the direction of the character is a bit tedious and there’s no real tutorial, which is alright in the end as you literally only use two buttons and the control sticks. With that, now onto the positives! As

Game Review: ‘Fury Unleashed’

Awesome Games Studio where indeed awesome and gave me the opportunity to give their 2D platforming, shooter Fury Unleashed a try! Taking place in a comic book world, you take on the role of Fury, a soldier that runs and guns through the world around them as they learn more about the origin of their world as well as themselves. The game is quite nostalgic in its gameplay mechanics as you have to jump up and down platforms as you shoot at enemies, anyone who grew up in the 80’s and early 90’s know these types of games. The controls are not very complicated and given some short work you can get used to them fairly quickly. The graphics are quite fitting for this game and flow cleanly making the 2D art pleasant to see. You really are transferred into a comic book-like world with how everything looks together. Each map of the game is set up like a page

Welsh Horror Game ‘Maid Of Sker’ Coming This June

Wales Interactive announced today that their upcoming first-person horror or survival game Maid of Sker will be coming out in June for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players will be taken back to 1898 where they play as a guest staying at the Sker Hotel where they must survive their stay as they uncover the dark history surrounding the hotel. Players will have to rely on stealth in order to bypass their enemies (known as the Quiet Ones) who will hunt players by using sound, this results in players having to control the character’s breathing! The game borrows heavily on British and Welsh folklore as the game itself is inspired by the Welsh folk-tale of Elisabeth Williams, an 1800’s tale about a woman locked in her room by her father resulting in her dying of a broken heart. Maid of Sker will check players into the hotel this June on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while Nintendo Switch

‘Destroy All Humans!’ Gets Release Date!

With the recent news of declassified information about UFO’s this is kind of fitting (or ominous) that today THQ Nordic has announced the release date for the upcoming re-release of their 2005 cult classic alien invasion game Destroy All Humans! will be arriving on earth this summer! Play as Crypto-137, a smart-alecky alien sent to a stereotypical 1950’s Earth to cause mayhem while getting instructions from his superior Orthopox (voiced by Invader Zim himself, Richard Steven Horvitz!). Hilarity ensues as Crypto uses an arsenal of alien weaponry and abilities to conquer humanity. Players will also be able to fly Crypto’s flying saucer and use it as a weapon or to just fling cows around with the tractor beam. Much like the “Grand Theft Auto” series, the more mayhem you cause, the bigger the response by the humans! Pre-orders are available for Destroy All Humans! and through selected channels, you could earn some pre-order skin packs! Destroy All Humans! will be

Kafkaesque Game ‘Metamorphosis’ Coming This Summer

All In! Games announced that this summer, players will get to see the world from a different perspective with their upcoming first-person game Metamorphosis, a game inspired by the short story of the same name by Franz Kafka. The short story is about a young man named Gregor who woke up one morning finding himself transformed into a large insect affecting how his once close nit family slowly turns on him due to his transformation. In the game, players take on the role of Gregor, and much like in Kafka’s story he was a man that turned into a bug but this time instead of following the original story’s narrative, Gregor goes out to find out what happened to him. Gregor must use parkour skills to move around his environment as he gets used to his new abilities as an insect. Gregor also will be solving puzzles and finding clues about the mystery surrounding his transformation as he meets interesting

New Souls-Like Game ‘Mortal Shell’ Coming

The 15-man team made up of AAA gaming veterans make up Cold Symmetry, and to make their mark on the gaming world they wasted no time and went right for the throat with their upcoming Souls-like flagship game, Mortal Shell. Souls games are a genre of games that are inspired by or a lot like the games in the “Dark Souls” game series where players earn points (souls) by killing enemies and can lose all of them if defeated in which these games are known to being very taxing. Souls games are also known for the unique combat system where dodging, and parrying attacks are just as important, if not more important, than attacks. Players take on the role of an empty vessel who is summoned by the “Dark Father” to retrieve glands from your fallen foes. To do so, the vessel must take on a “shell” (the remains of a fallen warrior) and harness their skills to fight the

Game Review: ‘Resident Evil 3’

CAPCOM was awesome enough to allow me a chance to experience to see that regardless of what’s going on in the world right now, there could be zombies and a large bio-weapon chasing me! Of course, I’m talking about Resident Evil 3, the latest installment in the remake boom that came to the franchise last year with the outstanding Resident Evil 2, but does RE3 keep the momentum going? This is a spoiler-free review so it’s safe sailing ahead! Resident Evil 3 takes place slightly before and during the events of Resident Evil 2 (just like in the original) and follows our heroine Jill Valentine as she tries to escape the horrors of Raccoon City as the T-Virus outbreak turns the citizens into Zombies. Jill must also face mutants and the fearsome Nemesis that pursues her with the objective to kill members of the S.T.A.R.S. unit. I’m quite impressed with how easy the controls are and being able to remember

Lovecraft In Spaaaaace! Game Review: ‘Moons Of Madness’

Rock Pocket Games and Funcom have allowed me to play their Lovecraft inspired first-person horror game, Moons of Madness for the Xbox One. Moons of Madness has already been released on PC and received high praise by many before finally being released onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One today. In Moons of Madness, you take on the role of Shane Newhart, a lowly engineer with a level 1 security clearance working on a station on Mars. After waking from a nightmare and having to get back to work maintaining the facility, things start to go weird…and very wrong and somehow Shane’s past is involved. Onto the game itself: Moons of Madness is heavily narrative-driven and you’re along for the ride, very much like the “Layers of Fear” games, Narcosis, and Observer, where players have to solve puzzles to continue the narration and may have to run away from danger rather than fighting it. With what was mentioned above, as you
