Minstrel’s Bargain by Richard Ayre was a book I’d been wanting to read for quite a while. Richard has three books to his credit, the most notable of which to our readers here at Horror Fuel is Bad Neighborhood, the multi-author horror anthology I put together with the help of a Kickstarter campaign last year. With that said, going in I was only loosely familiar with the author’s work, and wasn’t quite sure of what to expect from something which promised to be “heart-pounding pulp horror”. In recent years, “pulp” has been a catch all term, and the book description didn’t give me much to go on. With that said, I know from personal experience reading and writing Richard’s work in the past that he’s an excellent writer, so I was optimistic despite the sparse description. After-all, the cover was creepy enough. Book Description: Newcastle 1988. Reporter Phil Sturgess is intrigued by an up and coming rock band. Their music

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, one of the biggest cult classics in history, is getting rebooted by FOX, as a two-hour television event, directed and choreographed by executive producer Kenny Ortega and based on the original cult classic written by Richard O’Brian, who also played the role of Riff Raff. Filming for television event will begin this winter. The special is set to premiere this fall. Last year it was announced that Leverne Cox will be playing the lead role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, “a sweet transsexual transvestite from Transylvania”. The iconic role was originally played by Tim Curry. FOX has now announced more cast members. Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan will play Brad and Janet, lovers stranded in the rain and who stumble upon the manor of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the “velvet darkness of the blackest night”. Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick co-stared in the original roles of the couple. Reeve Canrney will play Riff Raff, Frank-N-Furter’s “faithful handy man”.

This post is about The Infected: Nightfall, the third book in Joseph Zuko’s zombie apocalypse survival series. This time around rather than a review I’m posting a book notice. Why? Well, by a bizarre turn of events I actually ended up editing this one. Since I was part of the project, I can’t review it in good conscience, but I will say that as a fan of the first two books in this series – volume three doesn’t disappoint! This book will not only make your heart race, but will tug on your heart strings as well. Book Description: Jim and Karen Blackmore have discovered that when it comes to the zombie apocalypse, there is no such thing as safety in numbers. Between their separate groups of survivors is a city of the living dead, hungry for flesh and growing in numbers by the minute. As Jim and his newly minted gang of zombie killers fight their way to his

She Walks In Shadows edited by Silvia Moreno-Garcia & Paula R. Stiles is very different from many of the books I’ve reviewed for Zombie Apocalypse Defense Force, before. It’s an anthology put out by an independent press which aspires to tell the stories of female authors whose works relate to or take place in the universe established by H.P. Lovecraft. Any horror fan worth their salt is familiar with Lovecraft’s work, so seeing the premise was enough to get me interested. The kind folks at Innsmouth Free Press were kind enough to send a copy of the book my way to review, and I am eager to share my thoughts with all of you. Book Description They emerge from the shadows, to claim the night …. Women from around the world delve into Lovecraftian depths, penning and illustrating a variety of Weird horrors. The pale and secretive Lavinia wanders through the woods, Asenath is a precocious teenager with an attitude,

The Numinous by Tristan Michie could most easily be classified as a science fiction-thriller, but it definitely has some horror and suspense elements thrown in. Although I made contact with Michie in a writing group, I was interested in reading The Numinous based on the premise, alone. One of my favorite films is Event Horizon and I couldn’t help but see the resemblance in the book’s concept. Book Description: Light years away from home drifts a cold, bleak ship; seemingly void of all life……. Markus Clyde woke from his Stasis in a lonely, dark room, dimly lit by the emergency power. With not another soul in sight. In his confused and disorientated state, he desperately tries to figure out what has happened, why was he here? Where are the rest of the crew? With power rapidly failing and disturbing events occurring throughout the ship, he finds himself in a race against time. To get the ship home……. Or die trying.

Friends, regular readers, and strangers who were drawn here by the presence of the word “giveaway” in the post title, it is my pleasure to announce that today we will be launching a giveaway of two books I’ve read and reviewed right here on Zombie Apocalypse Defense Force. Writer Joseph ‘Zombie’ Zuko and his wonderful wife have graciously offered up a copy of both The Infected: Jim’s First Day and The Infected: Karen’s First Day for one of our lucky readers! Zombie Fallout by Mark Tufo is a highly rated book which begins an 8 volume series of the same name. The series has 4.4 of 5 stars, so I went in expecting good things. This is what I found… Book Description: It was a flu season like no other. With the H1N1 virus running rampant throughout the country, people lined up in droves to try and attain one of the coveted vaccines. What was not known was the effect this largely untested, rushed to market, inoculation was to have on the unsuspecting throngs. Within days, feverish folk throughout the country convulsed, collapsed, and died, only to be reborn. With a taste for brains, blood, and bodies, these modern-day zombies scoured the lands for their next meal. Overnight the country became a killing ground for the hordes of zombies that ravaged the land. This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying

You may remember a while back that I reviewed The Infected: Jim’s First Day by Joseph ‘Zombie’ Zuko. The sequel to this book, The Infected: Karen’s First Day is available TODAY 6/13/15 through Amazon. Mr. Zuko was generous enough to send me a copy of the book prior to its release so I could share the details with all of you! Book Description: Raising kids is tough. Keeping them alive as the zombie apocalypse begins is tougher. But that’s exactly what stay-at-home mom Karen needs to do: fight fiercely to keep her young daughters safe as her husband Jim battles his way across the city, so they can escape the carnage together. On the worst day of her life, Karen finds that she will do anything to protect her family, and that the line between life and death has teeth. Originality & Entertainment: 5/5 & 5/5 Unless I’ve been reading books in the wrong circles, I’m fairly certain that I

Love and Decay Volume #1 (Episodes 1-6 of the first season) by Rachel Higginson is a book I have been meaning to read for a while. It was recommended to me months ago by a reader during Women in Horror month and I’m just now getting the chance to circle back around to it. As of this post, the book is available for free on Kindle. (I seem to plug kindle a lot, but it’s what I use and I love the fact that I can read books online or on my cell phone with the FREE Kindle Reading App. If you like another medium feel free to recommend it in the comments or to me on Twitter!) The good news with this series is that it is already several volumes in the making, which means that unless you have a huge reading appetite you won’t have to wait a long time for the next installment. …Not unless you get

THEM Episode 1 of Season 1 by M.D. Massey is a self described “paranormal post-apocalyptic thrill ride”. As with Champagne Jackson Kicks Zombie Ass, THEM immediately had some large shoes to fill by virtue of its tagline and book description. Description: THEM: Season 1, Episode 1 Scratch Sullivan is a professional monster hunter eking out a living after the zombie apocalypse. Z hunter, some would say… but he hunts more than just zombies. You see, there are deadlier predators roaming the badlands, where the fallout and some very nasty inhabitants have made it impossible for all but the bravest and most foolhardy to venture. Thing is, Scratch is happy enough with the odd job killing THEM and occasionally shacking up with his on and off girlfriend, Kara. But when a powerful vampire tips him off to a potential invasion of werewolves and zombies into the safe zone he protects, he’s forced to head straight into the heart of the deadlands
