This week’s Spotlight Artist is Angel M. Velasquez. Angel was born and raised in New York City. He currently resides in Farmington, NM after retiring from active duty in the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service.
He makes time to sketch, doodle, paint, and compose other works of art whenever he gets the chance. He has been collecting comic related stuff all his life and is also currently working on drawing some comic books of his own.
I was originally drawn to the artwork of Angel Velasquez because of his sketches of pop-culture figures, comic, and movie artwork. Angel is a truly talented artist whose works cover many genres and mediums.
He has sketched iconic figures such as DC Comics’ Deadman and Lion-O from Thundercats, among many others.
His artwork is also inspired by classic horror movies such as Blade, Predator, and Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.
Angel has also created many other horror related pieces, including: Cthulhu, Werewolves, Ghost Rider, The Violator from Spawn, and an awe-inspiring piece he entitled Punch Out.
I have quickly become a fan of his, not just because of his artwork, but because he interacts with his fans and truly cares about art, amongst other things.
I wish him continued success and can’t wait to see what he creates next.
I would recommend that you take a look at his Twitter and his Blog for more amazing artwork and some great topics of conversation. I have found that he is a great artist and an all around good person too.
