Sandy Collora is making a horror movie, his way. The veteran special effects artist, who worked for Stan Winston Studios, beginning at the age of 17 as a sculptor. Collora has an impressive portfolio that includes movies like Total Recall and Men in Black, as well as being a writer and director. Collora made this statement on his Kickstarter page:

“I hear people complaining about how the Hollywood machine is cranking out the same stuff OVER AND OVER, choosing economic safety over the creative art of filmmaking. I grew up on the original Alien and Predator films. I love them. But where are the NEW iconic creatures and characters? How long has it been since we’ve seen something truly unique and powerful in a genre film? Too long. If Hollywood won’t do it, I will. With your help, we can raise enough independently to crowd fund a great genre film. Maybe together we can even change the paradigm a little bit in Hollywood as well as break through a glass ceiling in the horror subcategory here on Kickstarter to the benefit of all horror fans now and in the future. “

‘Shallow Water: Terror Runs Deep’, is being funded by his Kickstarter campaign. ‘Shallow Water’ was inspired by his love of nature, which you can easily see in the design of the creatures in ‘Shallow Water’. His belief is that the damaged ecosystems could become host to creatures we couldn’t imagine.

“With all the time I’ve spent in and on the water over the past 40 years, I’ve seen the impact man has made on the ocean environment firsthand. I’ve dedicated a lot of my time to helping preserve our ocean resources and manage our fisheries, in the hopes of keeping them sustainable for generations to come. “Shallow Water” embodies all this and is a perfect fit for me as a filmmaker.”

The Official Synopsis:

An innocent adventure: a fishing trip to a remote and mythical fishing hole goes awry and becomes a terrifying predicament that keeps getting worse. Nestled deep in the Sea of Cortez is a tiny island you won’t find on any map. Six fishermen scour the Baja peninsula to find this magical place, but when they finally reach their destination, they encounter some sea life that they did not expect. This puts them all at odds and it quickly becomes every man for himself. Which will prevail, Mother Nature or Human Nature?

Collora is determined to deliver a true creature-feature, that may make us reevaluate the way we treat the ocean.
