The first promotional art for the remake of ‘Maniac Cop’ has been released and the film is slated to begin filming this spring in New York City. The remake of the 1988 cult classic is being directed by John Hyams (Universal Soldiers: Day of Reckoning), based on the script penned by Ed Brubaker . William Lustig, the director of the original, will be serving as producer for the film.

The original film stars the late Robert Z’Dar, along side Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins, Laurene Landon and Richard Roundtree. The cast for the remake has not been announced at this point, but should released soon.

In the 1988 version, people are being murder in plain site by a man in a police uniform. Officer Jack Forrest has been set up and must begin his own investigation to try to clear his name.
