‘The Witch’, written and directed by Robert Eggers, who won the award for ‘Best Director’ at this years’ Sundance Film Festival. Studio A24, the studio behind ‘Ex Machina’, has released a new poster for the film.
In ‘The Witch’ old traditional fears of magic, witchcraft, and possession combine to create a dark tale that explores one family’s fears and superstitions. ‘The Witch’ stars Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Anya Taylor Joy, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucus Dawson.
The movie, set in the 1630’s, takes place in New England. A farmer has been cast out of a colonial plantation, along with his family. They are forced to move to a remote piece of land bordered by a forest, rumored to be the home of witches and dark magic. Soon, strange things begin to occur, animals act oddly and crops wilt. A child disappears, only to return possessed. As things worsen, everyone begins to accuse the teenage daughter of being the source of the trouble. As the family’s situation continues to worsen, everyone finds their faith, strength and family bonds tested.
This period piece will be released on February 26th, 2016. The trailer is dark, unnerving and teases of the horrors to come.
