Jack the Ripper, a serial killer who stalked and slaughtered women (mainly prostitutes) in the Whitechapel area of London between 1888 and 1891, has yet to be identified, though many have their suspects. He was given the name “Jack the Ripper” when a letter from someone claiming to be the killer was distributed to the media. Eight murders have been attributed to Jack the Ripper, but since he was never caught there may be many more. Ripper’s murders stood out among the other killings of the day because of his M.O. The women he killed suffered a bloody death in the streets.
