The new adaptions of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and The Stand have had many ups and downs over the past two years. Now, the remake of The Stand has been put on hold and the TV series has hit a dead end. The Gunslinger film is moving forward and a third King adaption, Revival, is in the works.

“Right now it’s [The Stand] just in a holding pattern trying to figure out how to best make the movie because we’ve toyed with breaking it up into multiple movies, making it into one, making it into two. The latest draft, Josh Boone had written it and he was very anxious to make it but since then has written another script, Revival, which he’s gonna do beforehand, so were’ just waiting for that.”

King’s Revival, starring Samuel L. Jackson, centers on a preacher who discovers the power to heal, but in true Stephen King fashion, the preacher unleashes a power he can not control.

“When I read Revival, I was like, man, did you write this for me? I’d been on both sides of that pendulum. I call myself a non-believer, now, and when I moved to LA, it was like Neo being pulled out of the Matrix.” Den of Geek quoted Boone as saying. “Oh, my god, none of that stuff is true! But it was what I’d been taught and what I believed in since childhood. I believed in the devil, in Jesus, and even now as a non-believer, I’m still fascinated by that world and Revival is the scariest thing he’s written since Pet Sematary.”

Idris Elba will be playing the role of Roland in The Gunslinger, the first film in The Dark Tower film series. Matthew McConaughey is on board to play  “the Man in Black”, the film’s villain. Mad Max: Furry Road actress Abbey Lee has been offered the role of Tirana according to Variety. The film will be directed by Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and is scheduled for release on January 13th, 2017.
