Movie Review: The Suicide Squad Is A Fun Action-Packed Flick

I think that we can agree, 2016’s Suicide Squad wasn’t great. So when the new movie hit HBO Max this weekend, I had my doubts about it. So what did I do? I watched it. The film kicked off with a new squad headed to an island nation to take out a tower, but once they land on the beach, they discover that one of their squad has ratted them out and all hell breaks loose. What they don’t know is a second squad has landed on the island with the same mission, thankfully. As the team moves forward, they are sent to rescue Harley Quinn and Colonel Flagg after they are caught. While attempting to complete their mission of destroying the tower they discover a creature that’s out of this world as their loyalties are tested. The cast is huge, but the most important characters include Bloodsport, a badass played by Idris Elba, who joins the squad so that

Idris Elba Is Stalked By A ‘Beast’ In Upcoming Survival Thriller

Last year it was announced that Universal Pictures will be pitting Idris Elba against a hungry lion in the survival thriller Beast, directed by Baltasar Kormákur. Universal has now announced the date that Beast will be unleashed in theaters, August 19, 2022. “[Beast] finds Elba on a trip to South Africa, only for he and his two teenage daughters to be hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savanna has but one apex predator. Elba plays Dr. Nate Samuels, a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa where he first met his wife on a long-planned trip with their daughters to a game reserve. But what begins as a journey of healing jolts into a fearsome fight for survival when a lion, a survivor of blood-thirsty poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them.” The Wrap reports. Ryan Engle (Rampage) penned the script, based on an idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan. Primak-Sullivan,

Attack of the Rotten Tomatoes

The Sites Rotten Tomatoes ruined the summer 2017 boxoffice. The New York Times published this article on film review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes (read here). The site has been around almost twenty years. I was first introduced to it back in 2003-2004. As the Internet gained more of a foothold, Rotten Tomatoes expanded its base; and now, according to this article, its power to influence box office performance. Sounds like those parents who subscribe to the “not my kid” mentality. Couldn’t possibly be US, it has to be the school, society…anyone but us and the bad product we made. I wrote a similar article, which could be a companion piece (here) a few months earlier when another finger pointing article on RT got some press. Can a website that amasses critical reviews have so much impact on a film’s box office performance? Hollywood spins it both ways whenever convenient. When it comes to a franchise like Transformers, the studios love

Is ‘The Dark Tower’ Really That Bad?

No, it’s not…..but probably only if you already know the source material. The Dark Tower might seriously be the only movie I ever thought was actually too short. I really do enjoy a concise piece of cinema; Lord of the Rings withstanding, a pretty standard mistake in films, both masterpieces and massacred pieces, is a run time that’s just too long. The infamous bar scene in Inglorious Basterds, the highway opening of Manos: Hands of Fate, pretty much the entirety of The Room; many films, hits and shits alike, often could use a little more time in the cutting room, whether it be the result of overindulgent directors or expensive set pieces the studio doesn’t want to go to waste. However this is not so in The Dark Tower, which is without a doubt one of the most hopelessly confusing films in modern memory. Guess it wasn’t the greatest idea to condense seven novels into 95 minutes (and thats including

‘Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara Signs On As Showrunner For ‘Dark Tower’ Series

Even with The Dark Towers getting a lukewarm (at best) reception from critics, the series adaption is still moving forward. It has just been announced by Sony and Media Rights Capital that they have hired The Walking Dead’s former executive producer Glen Mazzara as the series’ showrunner. Set to have between 10 and 13 episodes per season, the series will begin production in 2018. The film adaptation’s lead actor Idris Elba will star as Roland. Dennis Haybert will play the role of Roland’s father, Steven. Tom Taylor has also joined the cast to play Jake Chambers. In an interview, co-writer and producer Akiva Goldsman announced that writing the scripts has begun. The first episode of a show has been written, and we hope to retain Ron Howard’s original idea to mix platforms, something that seemed revolutionary 10 years ago but now is something that others have done,” Goldsman said. “Idris for sure is part of this, and if the movie

After a long wait, details of the series are beginning to emerge. During a conversation with Deadline, co-writer and producer Akiva Goldsman announced that writing the scripts has begun. He also told the site that Idris Elba will be part of the series, along with a few other tidbits. The first episode of a show has been written, and we hope to retain Ron Howard’s original idea to mix platforms, something that seemed revolutionary 10 years ago but now is something that others have done,” Goldsman said. “Idris for sure is part of this, and if the movie is Roland Deschain the gunslinger, the show is his origin story, based
