Last year it was announced that Universal Pictures will be pitting Idris Elba against a hungry lion in the survival thriller Beast, directed by Baltasar Kormákur. Universal has now announced the date that Beast will be unleashed in theaters, August 19, 2022.
“[Beast] finds Elba on a trip to South Africa, only for he and his two teenage daughters to be hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savanna has but one apex predator. Elba plays Dr. Nate Samuels, a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa where he first met his wife on a long-planned trip with their daughters to a game reserve. But what begins as a journey of healing jolts into a fearsome fight for survival when a lion, a survivor of blood-thirsty poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them.” The Wrap reports.
Ryan Engle (Rampage) penned the script, based on an idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan. Primak-Sullivan, Kormákur, Will Packer, and James Lopez will produce.
Elba is an extremely talented actor, starring in films such as Beasts of No Nations, Thor: Ragnarok, Prometheus, the recently released Netflix movie Concrete Cowboy, and stars in the upcoming movie The Suicide Squad. He also appears on the series “Luther” as the title character.
