Earlier today news came via Dread Central that the Weinstein Co. has cancelled the release of Amityville: The Awakening. The film was scheduled for release on April 1st, 2016, but now won’t make into theaters until January 6th, 2017. Amityville: The Awakening has already been delayed, renamed, and recut several times. It was originally scheduled for release back in September of 2014. Supposedly, the reason for the date change, this time, is because the studio does not want to go up against Batman v. Superman in theaters.
Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Bella Thorne (Blended), Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), Thomas Mann (Project X) and Robo Cop’s Kurtwood Smith star in Amityville: The Awakening, written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac) with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions serving as producer for the film.
The film follows Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a single Mother, and her three children, one who is very ill. They have relocated to a new town and a new home. Unaware of its history and reputation, the family moves into the Amityville house, where Butch DeFeo butchered his family all those years ago. Things quickly go from bad to worse when the family begins to experience intense paranormal phenomena.
