A new true-crime film from Shoreline Entertainment is currently in development about Katherine Knight, known as Australia’s worst female killer. The film is an adaption of the book Blood Stain, about Knight’s crime, by journalist and author Peter Lalor.

She may not look like your average killer, but looks can be deceiving. On February 30, 2000 Kathrine Knight made headlines around the world. Knight murdered her boyfriend of 5 years, John Price, by stabbing him 37 times, but that’s not the worst of it. After he died, she hung his body on a hook. She then made a skin “suit” from his flesh, and cut-off his head. The disturbing event still does not end there. When police found the scene, they found Price’s head bobbing in a cooking pot on the stove with potatoes, gravy and vegetables.  The dinner table was set, complete with place cards for Price’s 3 children, she intended to serve them their father with a side of veggies. She swallowed a hand full of pills just before the police arrived and claimed she had no memory of the murder, but the judge didn’t believe her. The crime scene was so bloody and brutal that many of the officers who arrived on the scene had to attend counseling and suffered from nightmares.

Knight was the first woman in Australia to be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. She is now in her 60s and is currently serving her sentence at Silverwater Women’s Correctional Center.  She was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, which is no excuse for the cannibalistic killing.

Katherine Knight acted out twisted and brutal acts long before she met John Price. She tried to choke her first husband and hit him in the head with a frying pan. When he left her, she placed their baby on the railroad tracks and walked away. Luckily, a man spotted the infant and rescued it before it could be hit by a train. She was diagnosed with postpartum depression and sent to a hospital. A few days after she left the hospital she slashed the face of another woman with a knife. For some strange reason, she and her husband got back together and had another child in 1980, before breaking up again. In 1986 Knight met David Saunders. In 1988, she gave birth to his daughter .She killed the family puppy as an example of what would happen to him if she caught him cheating.  They bought a house, which she decorated with skins, traps and horns, knives and pitchforks. She stabbed him in the stomach with a pair of scissors during an argument and he left her. Her next relationship was with a man named John Chillingworth, together they had a son. Her next relationship, with Price, would be her last.

Shoreline Entertainment had this to say about the upcoming film, “Some of Australia’s most successful films have been gritty, true crime stories. We believe in the international potential of this story.”
