It’s been almost forty years since The Omen debuted in theaters. The iconic film, directed by Richard Donner, introduced us to Damien, the young Antichrist, meant to bring destruction to the world in his adulthood. But what happened before Damien was brought into this world? According to THR, we will soon find out. It seems 20th Century Fox has a prequel to The Omen in the works as we speak, titled The First Omen.
The First Omen, written by Ben Jacoby (Bleed), may have already found its director. Antonio Campos is currently in negotiations the step behind the camera for the film. Campos is behind such films as 2016’s drama Christine, as well as the films Simon Killer, and Afterschool.
In The Omen, when Katherine (Lee Remick), the wife of American Diplomat Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck), gave birth Robert was told the baby had passed and that an abandoned baby could take its place. Without Katherine’s knowledge, the babies were swapped. At only a few years old Damien brought suffering to those around him. Strange events and suicides seemed to follow him.
There are three sequels, and a 2006 remake of The Omen. There is currently a show titled Damien, starring Bradley James as adult Damien Thorn, airing on A&E . Tune in on Monday nights to see Damien struggle with the knowledge that he might be the Antichrist, while trying to protect himself from those who might want to cause him harm. It’s a fantastic show, in my opinion.
The plot details of The First Omen are being kept hush-hush so far. Hopefully it won’t be long before the synopsis and cast are revealed.
