Robert Kirkman’s ‘Outcast’ ended it’s first season this past Friday and casting is already underway for season two. Kirkman serves as executive producer for the Cinemax series based on his graphic novel series by the same name.
‘Outcas’t follows Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), a young man who has had a hard life. Since he was a child, those around him have become possessed, including his mother and his wife. Kyle has a mysterious power to force the evil the evil out of those he lays hands on. Together with a preacher (Philip Glenister) and with the occasional help of the local police chief (Reg E. Cathey), Kyle sets out to learn why he has this ability and save those possessed, all while trying to put his family back together.
In season 2, Kyle will continue to seek out answers about himself, why those around him are being possessed and why the residents of his small town are being taken over.
‘Outcast’ has already added three new cast members for next year. M.C. Gainey (Django Unchained) has signed on to play the role of Bob, a hermit who owns a junkyard at the edge of town. He is brooding and a bit eccentric and hides his ties to Rome’s dark past. Madelyn Deutch (Texas Rising) will co-star as Dakota, a free spirit who embraces an unconventional form of Christianity and an understanding of what is really happening in the small town. The third to join the new season is ‘Banshee’s’ Hoon Lee. Lee will portray Dr. Kenneth Park, a surgeon at the local hospital. Dr. Park has a mysterious interest in Kyle.
In the first season Pete Burris (Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) co-stared along side Fugit, Lacy Camp (Red Band Society), Julia Crockett (The Absence), Philip Glenister (Demons) Melinda McGraw (Mad Men), David Denman (13 Hours), Grace Zabriskie (The Killing), Cathrine Dent (The Shield), Brent Spiner (Independence Day) and The Americans actor Lee Tergesen.
‘Outcast’ is one of those rare series that don’t fall short of the graphic novel it’s based on. The series is dark, surprising, extremely well written and the cast is amazing. If you haven’t seen it, you should do so immediately.
