Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ prequel ‘Leatherface‘. Some fans might believe that it was just released on DVD in UK, but it hasn’t. A film has just been released titled ‘Leatherface’, but it is an impostor.
The knockoff, directed by Rene Perez, would like for you to believe that it is actually part of the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, but in reality it is not.
On the poster stands a man with a chainsaw and stitched together mask, the tag line “The Legend Lives On…” written at the bottom. Hmmm, I wonder where they got that idea (sarcasm)?
The Synopsis for the movie goes like this:
Four wannabe actors take part in a horrifying reality show in which a serial killer stalks them in a remote cabin and their reactions are filmed for TV. The survivor of the week is promised $1 million and the starring role in their very own horror film. The only problem is the role of the killer is being played by a maniacal murderer who has been let out of an insane asylum to continue his reign of terror…
Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the faux ‘Leatherface’ was released in the US last year under the title ‘Playing with Dolls: Bloodlust‘, the sequel to Perez’s 2015 film ‘Playing with Dolls’. It seems Lighting Pictures has resorted to a low-brow tactic to sucker people into seeing the film, hoping they confuse it with the real ‘Leatherface’. Not cool Lightning Pictures, not cool. Don’t fall for it folks.
The release date for the real ‘Leatherface’ has not been announced by Lionsgate, but has already wrapped filming. Hopefully a trailer will arrive soon. In the film we will be introduced to Leatherface as a teen. You can learn more here.
