After three years, The Babadook writer-director Jennifer Kent has announced that her next project will be the revenge thriller, titled The Nightingale. Kent will direct from the screenplay she wrote.
Set in Tasmania in 1825, the film centers on a 21-year-old Irish woman and convict who witnesses the murder of her husband and her child at the hands of her soldier master and his men. She and her Aboriginal guide set out on a mission of revenge through the hellish wilderness.
Variety reports that productions on The Nightingale begins later this month in Tasmania, Australia. Screen Australia, Screen Tasmania, and Made Up Stories and Bron Creative will executive produce as well as co-finance the thriller that stars Aisling Franciosi, Damon Herriman, Sam Claflin, Harry Greenwood, Ewen Leslie, Baykali Ganambarr, and Magnolia Maymurur.
