Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Lin Shaye

Hello again, my Little Monsters. How lovely it is for you all to join me again on this Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday. As you can see the Woman of Horror we honor today is the wonderful Lin Shaye. This Detroit, MI native caught the acting bug when she attended the University of Michigan, where she was an Art Major. During her time there, Lin also appeared in as many dramatic productions as she could. After she completed her degree at Michigan, Lin moved to New York to enroll at Columbia University and also pursue an acting career on the stage. She would find roles off Broadway and OFF off Broadway, and would also earn herself a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Columbia. In 1975 Lin would start her career as a whore. WHOA, calm down. Does The New ALIEN: COVENANT Featurette Confirm A Connection To Ripley

We have all heard the rumor that Ripley is somehow tied to Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Today, Fox released a new featurette for Covenant, and unless it’s just wishful thinking, the voice of the computer system, known as MU/TH/UR 6000 aka “Mother”, sounds very familiar. If we are right, the voice belongs to none other Sigourney Weaver, known for playing the iconic role of Ripley in Alien and Aliens. So, how could that be? Bloody-Disgusting points out that Prometheus took place in 2093, fast forward 10 years to when Covenant is set, followed by Alien, which was set in 2122. Here’s where things get interesting, Katherine Waterston plays the new role of Daniels in Alien: Covenant and rumor is, Daniels is actually Ripley’s mother. Ridley Scott kind of shot down the rumor (but not really). So, is it possible? Yes it is. According to IMDb, Weaver is still reprising her role as Ellen Ripley in the still untitled Alien project

Movie Review: ASYLUM OF DARKNESS Is A Convoluted Tale Of Madness

Dwight Shroud has awakened to find himself in an asylum, but he doesn’t intend to stick around to find out how hospitable his hosts are. He is plagued by the horrific imagery that his madness projects upon everything and everyone he encounters during his confinement. During a session, Dwight subdues his doctor and makes his escape. As he tries to put distance between the asylum and himself, Dwight attempts to flag down an approaching car. The driver swerves and crash the car, in a fiery wreck. As Dwight tries to pull the badly burned driver from the car, and during the brief encounter each man assumes the other’s consciousness. There is a new horror comedy, titled The Night Watchmen, making waves at films festivals and it’s one you are going to want to sink your teeth into. Directed by Mitchell Alteri, Night Watchmen was written by Ken Arnold and Dan DeLuca, who also stars in the film alongside Ken Arnold, Kevin Jiggetts, Kara Luiz, James Remar, Max Gray Wilbur, Matt Servitto, Tiffany Shepis, Rain Pryor, Diona Reasonover, Dan Franko, Gary Peebles, and Sarah French. In the film, three inept night watchmen, aided by a young rookie and a fearless tabloid journalist, fight an epic battle to save their lives. TALL MEN Review

Tall Men has something of an interesting history behind it; originally released in 2004 as Customer 152, the 13 year old film is being given fresh legs with a new title, a new distributer, and a release on Netflix in May. It’s a shame thin, given the films journey to the silver screen, that it isn’t any better. A phycological horror featuring evil debt collectors and faceless men in suits almost a decade before Slenderman hit the scene, Tall Men has a lot of good elements, but a lack of cohesion ultimately stops the film from rising beyond the sum of its parts. Terrence Mackleby isn’t very good with money, to the tune of seven maxed out credit cards, $80,000 in debt, and a declaration of bankruptcy. The first trailer has blown in for Spike TV’s upcoming series adaption of Stephen King’s novella The Mist, You can get a glimpse of the terror that is to come with the first batch of images. True Story Inspired Book HOSTAGE TO THE DEVIL Being Adapted

Penchant Entertainment has announced that they have acquired the film and television rights to the New York Times best-selling nonfiction book Hostage to the Devil: The Possession and Exorcism of Five Contemporary Americans penned by Father Malachi Martin, the inspiration behind The Exorcist. Penchant has both a film and series adaptions in mind. First published in 1976 and selling over a million copies, Hostage to the Devil recounts examples of possession and exorcisms in modern times. Master Of Horror John Carpenter Has A New Comic Coming Out This Summer

Master of horror John Carpenter may have retired from directing, but he continues to work within the genre. In fact, Carpenter is working on something brand new, a comic series. Titled ‘Tales of Science Fiction’, the monthly comic anthology series will “show us the darkness and wonder of everything the genre has to offer.” That’s right, we said monthly. Carpenter and his wife, Sandy King, will be working together to deliver the comic through King Comics, Carpenter’s Asylum, and Tales For A Halloween Night, JoBlo reports. The first issue “Vault” was written by James Ninness with art by Andres Esparza and will arrive on shelves on July 26, 2017.

LYCAN Will Be Unleashed This August

The North American rights to Bev Land’s Lycan has been acquired by MVD Entertainment in conjunction with Parade Deck, Deadline reports. Produced by and starring Land’s wife Dania Ramirez (Devious Minds), this horror thriller co-stars Vanessa Angel, Gail O’Grady, Rebekah Graf, Parker Croft, Jake Lockett, Craig Tate, and Alina Puscau. In the film, six college kids in a sleepy Southern town are assigned a group project to rediscover a moment in history, one of them sets in motion a horrific fate when he proposes they head into the Georgia backwoods to tackle the legend of Emily Burt, the Talbot County werewolf. “Talbot County” is a Hitchcockian tale of horror set in 1986 that delves into a hundred-year-old fable where our students are met with very real consequences that go beyond any classroom lessons. Lycan will arrive in select theaters on August 4, 2017, followed by its release on Digital HD and VOD later this year from Parade Deck.
