Back in April we shared a first look at Oscar winning actress Helen Mirren as Sarah Winchester in the upcoming true-life inspired supernatural thriller Winchester. Today, CBS Films announced that we will enter the Winchester House next February.
Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke, Angus Sampson and Emm Wiseman co-star alongside Mirren.
Winchester, written and directed by Micheal and Peter Spierig, follows the story of firearm heiress Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), who was convinced that she was haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester Repeating Rifle.
After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, Sarah Winchester threw herself into the 24-hour a day, 7-day a week construction of an enormous mansion designed to keep the evil spirits at bay. But when skeptical San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price (Jason Clarke) is dispatched to the estate to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all.
In real-life, after Sarah consulted a medium who told her she would survive as long as her home was being built, she began construction on The Winchester Mystery House in 1884. After 38 years of construction, the 7-story, 24,000-square-foot home had a staggering 160 rooms. There are stairs that lead nowhere, doors that open into walls, and other curious features. The house, which is now open to the public and is still considered one of the most haunted homes in America, will actually be featured in the film which will opens in theaters on February 23, 2018.
