Alongside The Matrix and Underworld, Resident Evil was one of the original “attractive people in leather kick ass” films, released all the way back in 2002, with an array of less and less impressive sequels following. The powers at be finally decided to put a bullet in the gassy franchises head with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter earlier this year, but apparently this series is a lot like the zombies that inhabit it; unable to die, and dangerous to the brains of anyone who gets to close.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, a reboot is in the works less than six months after the The Final Chapter limped its way out of theaters. While there’s no denying these films make good money (300 Mil on a 40 Mil budget is a tidy profit for any movie, let alone horror), but I doubt I’m alone in wondering why.
If I want to watch an attractive lady in leather, I’ll hire a dominatrix. Hell, if I’m in the mood for zombies too I’ll watch Dawn of the Dead with her. Just anything to avoid yet another reboot. People were getting sick of reboots around 2006, and 11 years on they’re about to lose their shit.
All I know is I’d rather take a hack saw to the eyeballs than watch Resident Evil 8. Or Saw 9 for that matter. Or Paranormal Activity 13 (are they on number 13 yet? It sure feels like it.) Get Out made a lot of damn money, so maybe Hollywood will take the hint and start making more original movies with new, quality talent backing them up. Or fuck it, maybe they’ll make Resident Saw: When Poltergeists Attack. At this point I’m past caring.
