The Jeepers Creepers franchise has been a source of controversy from the start. While the franchise has a lot of fans there are also a lot of people willing to forgo watching the movie due to writer-director Victor Salva’s past which includes a stint in prison for the molestation of a boy.
Jeepers Creepers 3 is now approaching its September release. The upcoming premiere at the famous Chinese Theater has now been canceled.
Promoter and organizer Kory Davis held a news conference Monday after receiving threats of protest. Someone contacted the theater saying that protests would not only be held the night of the premiere, but every day leading up to the screening. With the theater’s reputation being at stake they canceled the event.
This is not the first time Jeepers Creepers 3 has been in trouble. Besides their trouble when the movie tried to film in Canada before ending up in Louisianna, there has been a petition circulating (you can sign here) aiming to get the film banned from US theaters due to Salva’s status as a pedophile (you can learn more here).
The big question is how successful will the movie be and will it be enough to make Jeepers Creepers 4, which already has a finished script?
As it stands now, Jeepers Creepers 3 will open in theaters September 26, 2017. Check with your local theater to find out if it will be shown in your town.
