At this point the “Texas Chainsaw” franchise’s continuity feels like taking a hammer to the head. Multiple reboots, direct sequels to earlier films that had previously been rebooted, timelines that Doc Brown and Marty couldn’t figure out; the entire series is an absolute mess, and one of rapidly decaying quality to boot. “Leatherface”, the franchise’s most recent installment, holds a paltry 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Perhaps it’s not all that surprising then (if not a little distressing) that the next film in the series will be rebooted yet again, if a tweet from actress Christa Campbell is correct.
“I loved this film and I’m very proud,” said Campbell. “Unfortunately because of the time it took to release it we lost the rights sadly. So no, at least not from us.”
Maybe the next team will finally get the chainsaw revved up and roaring. I’d hate to see this franchise die with a sputter.
