Fans were crushed in ‘The Walking Dead’s’ midseason finale when it was revealed that Carl (Chandler Riggs) had been bitten in the previous episode. Now, we all know that the hit show is famous for killing off characters, but they’re famous for another thing, teasing fans with contradictions.
After Greg Nicotero promised that there is no way that Carl could survive, now the show’s creator Robert Kirkman teased during a Q&A that Rick’s boy might not die after all.
He’s not dead yet. He might not die. You never know. But I think if, were that to happen, I think that it would have some interesting ramifications on Rick, that I think would energize and really kind of set things in motion in a really interesting way leading to the resolution of All Out War in a way that will make for a very exciting back half to Season 8, so I think it’s going to be really cool.”
So, what will happen to Carl? Is Kirkman dicking us around to raise ratings? God knows those have plummeted over the past two seasons. If that is what’s going on, shame on him for toying with our emotions.
Unless Carl is Superman, or the walker was wearing dentures, I find it hard to believe that he’ll make it out okay. His death is exactly what the show needs right now. Let’s be honest, Rick needs a reason to go feral again. You have to admit angry Rick is the best Rick and he’s going to need a lot of rage to finish off Negan and the Saviors.
Nicotero made it clear that fans will need a few boxes of Kleenex for the midseason premiere and even admitted that he cried while watching it, so my money is on Carl kicking the bucket.
